A funny thing happened on the way to Seacoast....

So last sunday on the way to seacoast a funny thing happened.....

I left my house with a half a tank of gas for the 50 mile ride to the store to meet ducdave and company.....

25 miles later at 85mph in the left lane on 93 the bike dies. Its an 8.5 Gallon tank!!! Yea, BMW fuel strip technology sucks and apparently lots have been replaced.

So I pull over and coast to a stop get off the bike and do what any good jewish boy in the same situation would do, and call Degsy. Too bad hes already at seacoast (which is really really odd since hes like 45 minutes early) so I pull out the owners manual and start flipping through. Not sure what I thought I would find in there, but turns out there is no gas in it.

Alas, here is the funny part. Im guessing at least 6 people going to the ride must have passed me AND looked while I waived for help, but nobody stopped. Bums!! Bummmmmmms!!!!

Anyway, I GPS for fuel and find out there is a station 1.5 miles away so I start walking. Its a real adventure now. Then an old beat up volvo station wagon stops and the guy asks if I need help. Really a good samaritan move and the guy drives me to the station, waits while I fill up a can and takes me back to the bike.

Adventure over!! I now use the trip counter again.

ha...I am with ya...eff everyone else, don't use your gas gauge (paging R7?), and just count with the trip meter and fill up as if your bike gets half the mileage you usually get

(btw, I johnnyV for filling me up once)

Manny - you have my sympathies - my GS did *exactly* the same trick with the fuel gauge, although mine decided to permanently register 3/4 of a tank regardless. Warranty fix, was ok after that

The fuel strip on my 06 has been dead on since I got it. Just bad luck I guess.

What time did this happen? I was off 93 by 8:30, but had an MSR fuel bottle on board that would have gotten you to the gas station.

Old school here, I always stop for bikes on the side of the road but it's possible I didn't see you.

I took 102 but I would've stopped if I was on 93, when I see an atgatt rider I just assume they are meeting up for the ride.

Out of pure curiosity, take a closer look at your owners manual... where it states the recommended octane rating, does it say RON, MON or PON?

    WHAT DOES IT SAY, JIM?

Most manuals put the recommendation in RON.

Except we get PON at the pumps

RON is higher than PON for the same fuel, so if it says 91RON, that's about the same as 87PON.

    Below is the approx conversion
    90RON-86.6PON
    92RON-88.5PON
    95RON-91PON
    96RON-92PON
