    Another Gadget Question...Radar?

Ok so I now a few of you use radar detectors on your bikes, however, do you actually pay attention to them, are they distracting, and do you really slow down when the warning goes off? I would assume you can hear the beep when it goes off, so do you just make sure you are paying enough attention to notice the red light or what?

that's it bitch... we're going riding... i don't give a shit if you slow me down, you're goin riding w/ SOMEONE ... and you're NOT gonna be on my bitch seat... OR the bitch seat of your OWN DAMN MOTORCYCLE... especially w/ a DOOD!!!

ya know what? seriously... i'm pretty new to riding, but i've ridden w/ some slow dudes & truthfully, it didn't piss me off one bit. It just made me nervous when i didn't see them come around the last corner for a minute or so... as soon as he popped around that bend i was happy. those people should NOT have been last in line... if they went down we wouldn't have known for quite a while.

even though i got my M license 3 years ago i've only been riding regularly for the last 6 weeks. i picked up on it super fast & hung w/ the rest of the guys on my last group ride w/ no problem... shit, my chicken strips are only about 1/2 inch wide now, partly because of that group ride... it extended my comfort zone w/o drastically overstepping my capabilities because i was following someone who knew what they were doin (Nathan) which inspired a little more confidence and taught me some things.

i'm probably gonna post up about another group ride this weekend & i already know one or two pretty experienced guys are comin & wanna have some fun... That ride may not be for you, but you're welcome to give me a date & time you wanna go riding some weekend & i'll be there... better yet, gab life by the balls & make your own group ride... tell the guys you wanna get out there w/ some other riders, but you're a beginner & want some guys to give you pointers... get someone to lead ya so you can slowly increase your comfort zone & someone behind ya to give ya pointers.

you'll be ridin w/ the big boys in no time

    Another Gadget Question...Radar?

Sounds like a great idea. I was going on the advice of someone else on this forum who's name I will not mention that told me not to be involved in group rides until I handle riding by myself very well. I try to do at least 20+ miles per day to get my milage up on the bike. I will probably take to bike to dunkies and sullivans, just that I have a friend tagging along and he is not riding on the back of my bike! Im hoping to get involved in group rides as soon as possible so I can force myself to push a little further than Im used to.

    Another Gadget Question...Radar?

Talk to the other people in the group before the ride and let them know what pace you want to ride. If you feel a rider behind you wants to go faster move over to the right part of the lane when it is safe and wave them by with your left hand.

If you know the route everyone is going to ride lay out some pre-determined waiting points. There are usually smokers in the group, and this gives them a great oppertunity.

Most important - Don't go faster than you feel comfortable with. We have all been novice riders at one point. I don't mean to sound like a parent here, but it gets ugly fast when riders ride over their heads. The skill will increase with experience, give it time, take courses, and listen to experienced riders. Good Luck...

Feel free to name names all you want.

No need for drama here, we are supposed to be adults.

Do whatever you want, it's a free country. Hopefully you won't get bit.

Like Mystery Squid said... no matter how smart you think you are it can be a BITCH to resist once you go on a ride and the testosterone starts flowing.

    Q:

Don't you want someone with the route known in their head to hang back as the "gate keeper"?

I was always under the impression that one of the better riders occupied the last slot as they'd have much more to deal with.

    Some items like:
Calling for help when rider down.
Keeping cages from trying to over take the group.
    Guidance
Keeping the group together by keeping people from getting lost.
    Managing the back door.

Rolling back from the front to relieve the gate keeper is also a noble feat.

Ben...I was not trying to be a bitch. I was just saying thats what you said. And I took your advice tonight which I thought was the right decision. When everyone was getting ready to go I didn't feel I would be up for the group ride, so I do appreciate your advice.
