    Garmin Zumo 660 Discount

I found a group discount for the new Zumo 660. Go to getfeetwet.com and bring up the 660. At checkout type in CLUBDISCOUNT and get it reduced from 799 to 640. Word on the Zumo forum is that they wont charge your card till it ships.

    Re: Garmin Zumo 660 Discount

A quick search on Google gave me several vendors at or below the $640 price point. April 10 is the ship date given on all thesites I looked at.

The 550 can now be had for that price. Still looking for a hands on review comparing the two.

How much cheaper? Were they reputable places? I am weary of the too cheap ones but thought that 640 was fair. Thats about what I paid for my 550 a couple years ago.

I ordered mine this morning and they did charge my credit card. Maybe they have them to ship? I will let everyone know.

So now instead of an arm and a leg,
its just an arm and foot and ankle!

I'm not sufficiently blown away by the feature set for me
to drop 600+ dollars on one of those just yet.
I'd rather do 3 track days!

Does the 660 do anti-traffic guidance? Its a monthly sub for that
    though right?

on which bike? do you have pic how you mount it? does having no internal battery annoys you because it gets turned on and off all the time and have to acquire new signal? does it have mp3 player? its only $100. for another $100 more the 2820 maybe better choice? said it's pretty bulky unit.

    Re: Garmin Zumo 660 Discount

i use the garmin mount on a ram mount on two bikes and i have a custom mount i made on the r1

i run all my bikes on battery and i may or may not shut it off depending on how long i stop for.

i use a ipod for music and at this time have no interest in having it in my gps. as it is for me i dont think it would work.

the passport has some funky voltages that make there way onto the headphones wires.
if you have more than one device run from the same power source it can let the magic smoke out of more than one of you devices.

you've seen the gps/radar mount on my r1.

i dragged you and 20+ others across ma, through southern vt and did lunch at the outback several years ago.

it doesn't take very long to acquire a new signal

we wouldn't want that to happen.

I've got a 2720 I bought for $120 from Amazon refurbed. I think they're $100 now. Ram-mount adaptor and power cable cost me another $50.

The one thing I don't like about the 2720 is the screen - not very bright and really hard to see in sunlight, impossible w/sunglasses on. I'm looking for a large shade box that I've seen on other GPS mounts.

The plusses and the low cost (compared to 5x for the Zumo) outweigh the screen brightness. I prefer the buttons to touchscreen menus, MUCH easier to find/use when driving.

I had the 340c from my car before, and the advantages of the 2720 are water resistance, buttons, draggable map (find routes, towns, etc. by dragging the map), programmable routes from your computer, and the speak button.

I've disabled speech normally and just hit the speech button for the next direction. Very nice when you've got the audio mixed into your earbuds.

Bruce, good to "see ya" - maybe $20 cheaper. My point was not purchase from the vendor you liked, it's that price point will be easy to find once they're in stock.

And let me know which one you want to dump.

This is a link for Amazon, $107 w/1yr warrantee, refurbed.

Unless there are extras like a mount, power cable (straight wire, not the car adaptor that comes w/it), I would try to renogotiate. But that's me.

Using a 2610 here, pretty similar to the other Streetpilot series units of that age. All the 26xx or 27xx series are pretty rugged, reliable and un-fancy.
Cant say anything on MP3 or music ability - I just ride with earplugs rather than music.

Only criticism I have is the screen, but then again, in bright sunlight anything will wash out. Besides, a bit of plastic and some adhesive velcro tape, and you can easily make a shade for it.

On the Zumo forums someone tried to use this to get a cheaper price and GWF got told by Garmin they had to sell it at MSRP first. So they are still honoring the lower price, its just gonna take a couple extra weeks to get here. More info here: http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php?topic=8466.0

Cool, I will check the thread..thanks I couldn't find it there

If/when you happen to get yours I will be particularly interested in your thoughts on it. I've been trying to use just the touchscreen on my Zumo 550 and I could deal...especially if it offered widescreen.
