#@*%! First Gen R6 Help Puhleez....

I'm calling it quits for the night... After trying to locate my truck to move for street sweeping, and realizing it had been towed to an unknown location due to a "spontaneous" construction zone that materialized, I went inside to um, curse at the bike...

I wanted to get at the spark plugs, but there is a hard plastic heat shield that I can't get out....
Best I can tell, its anchored by 2 plastic "things" that have no heads on them, that I don't know how to get loose....and can't even really get at(hmmm don't know what they're called) to the 2 tabs in front, just behind the radiator... but don't see an easy way to get them out... I was thinking I may have to pull the radiator, or at least loosen it up to lower a couple inches, but the right side phillips head screw holding the radiator on doesn't want to budge, and looks like it wants to strip...

Anyone familiar with the idiocy that is the engineering of this bike, feel free to chime in....

no I think he is saying push the middle IN. you know, the soft part, in the middle, where it goes in, the hole.

Are we still talking about plastic rivets?

but yes if you push the center in it should disengage and the whole pin should be able to be pried out

assuming its that kind of plastic rivet

    my yamaha had em everywhere,

and dont worry if they break you can pick up similar ones at cap or napa....

when you push something into the hole in the middle, the area around it becomes looser and the whole assembly should then be easier to manipulate, you can then pick it up and do with it as you want, if getting it off is your thing - then you should have the access you require after this is achieved.

you must get it off FIRST in order to get the access you require, just to be clear.

    Victory is mine!!!

It was hard to get at, and the hole was very small but I used my smallest tool to push in the middle, and got it off without a problem. Next time it will be easier....

The first time is the hardest because they aren't sure how small the hole will be or if it will expand or if the tool needs to fit exactly or what, and if you stretch it out then your left with this poorly packed suitcase of a mess, so it's good you used the smallest size you had. I would have recommended you use your fingers but figured you might not know exactly where the magic spot is that makes the whole thing come apart and didn't dare try walking you through it via forum post. In the end, I am glad we were able to share this experience together even if it means nothing to you in the morning and all you have left is this odd memory and a weird smell on your fingers.

You should go to bed though, it's pretty damn late and working on your bike this late always causes me to forget how I took shit apart or put it back together.
