Thumbs up So who wants to gimme a hand w/ a 7.5k check?

i'll like.. give you money... n stuff ............... or

w/ the track day comin up & over 10k on the bike (just a tad late on this ) i gotta do some basic maintenance & inspection stuff.... I can either bring it to a shop (where & how much?) or find someone w/ a good eye for stuff like this...

what's on the 7.5k inspection list you ask? well i'll tell you (i'll just list everything while i have the thing in front of me)

(the ones w/ a "D" mean it's suggested that it be done by an authorized dealer)

    Carb Synchronization
    Idle Speed-check
    Throttle grip play check
    Spark lug clean & gap
    Valve clearance check
    Air suction valve check
Air cleaner element and air vent filter clean
    Brake light switch check
    Brake pad wear check
Brake fluid level check (i should flush it, too)
    clutch adjust
    Steering check - D
    Drive chain wear check
Nut, bolt & fastener tighness check
    Engine oil change
Oil Filter change - D (dealer item???? puhleeez)
    General lubrication
    Front fork oil leack check
Rear shock absorber oil leak check
    Swingarm pivot, Uni-track linkage lubrcate - D

nice little list, huh.... mostly quick check stuff but there's some stuff that i'll need a hand with, not to mention it'll make it get done faster... if it's cheap enough (like 100 bucks) i'd almost like to take it in for this since i'm not gonna have much time at all to do it myself.

    opinions? suggestions? advice?

i actually have a few bottles of VERY nice brew directly from ZEE FAZZAHLAND (Germany) that'd i'd be more than willing to share

I can lend some help if you

The biggest job on there is the valve clearance check.

Do you have a manual? I would recommend getting one if you don't.

You will need a carb syncer to do that and I think you can get a motion pro one for 50-75 bucks.

Dollars to donuts this check turns into a shim swap. They didn't significantly change the engine from the 98 model I had, and all my exhaust valves and half of my intake valves needed were overtight at 7k.

Nah, just on the track, if you hear something which sounds something like what you might imagine your valves might sound like as they're slamming into the top of your pistons, roll off the throttle, then reach down and pull the piston away from the head so as to avoid further damage.

Seriously, it's *unlikely* that you'd cause serious engine damage by waiting another thousand miles or so (ask rmbbikes how many miles he had on his hawk without a valve check) but it's not a bad idea, when I checked my valves at 7k they were tight enough to make me uneasy. And running like that can burn valve seats over time even if it doesn't cause immediate catastrophic engine damage.

Bear in mind you're looking at probably ~300 to have it done (they'll probably sync the carbs along with this, as changing the lash will throw things off somewhat) and that it's really easy to half-ass a valve adjustment and get away with it, so take it to a mechanic you trust.

This guy has an AWESOME write up on how to do the valve clearance check:
    http://www.themcdonalds.net/richard/...t/valves.shtml

Give yourself 2 days for the valve adjustment. It's a lot of disassembly but the actual shim swap is cake once your in there. You will need to find a good shop to swap shims with, ussually they are pissed about you doing it yourself. You can provide them with the funky half sizes they can't buy from kawasaki though so a smaller shop will be more willing.

Just make sure you have a good torque wrench. The bolts that hold down the camshaft bracket are soft as butter and I snapped a few (as I was tightening them way past spec, thats 104 INCH pounds ).

Goin out of town this weekend, but I have a carb sync gauge I just bought if you want to swing by my place during the week sometime I'll sync you up.
