When asked about a motorcycle and riding I usually reply my personal roller coaster so I have no opinion on these choices

I do however have an alternative

    S 1000 XR - BMW Motorrad USA

    BMW Motorrad USA

Looks like it might need a seat upgrade though

They had those at the Star/Yamaha demo tent I hit last summer but were not allowing test rides. Looks great, hits the formula. But falls short in the same way all the other Star lineup does; meh fit and finish, meh ergonomics and lots of cheap shit plastic.

They make a bagger version now too.

If you like that bagger feel from a metric, I'd rather go F6B every day of the week.
If you are hooked on a v-twin bagger, I still think Harley beats it.

I'm not hooked on anything. if I bought anything remotely close to something in this bracket, it's going to have a trunk too.

Full luggage options and cruise are my 2 must haves on the next large purchase. that could take any number of forms at this point.

With you except the top-box. Don't care for them. Much more inline with the imbeek style of lashing a soft bag to the parcel shelf and being done with it.
Bet my Twisted Throttle Dryspec bag would look right at home geek AF.

Top box makes a significant difference in comfort to a passenger, if that's any sort of concern.

yeah, for sure. I could do a detachable version no sweat. For my intentions, though, I need it.

One of the things I do like about the F6B is that like my FJR1300 the side cases take a full face helmet. Doesn't look like the Star Eluder does. Pretty sure the HD bagger doesn't either. While the FJR and other ST machines are looking a bit dated they still check a lot of boxes. Do like the bagger look though.

    $6k now..

I've been down the rat hole (again) on this the last few days. I actually think this bike is priced pretty fairly now. National has an awesome rep for selling bikes that are 100% ready to go. My guess is this one is probably going to go good as new for at least a season or three, thus the premium they're asking over CL crap is likely well worth it. It also appears to have a 19" Street/Road Glide front wheel swapped. Which is apparently a thing. I guess it is more desirable handling. Factory 17" RK wheels are easy to find 2nd hand, the 19's less so. So swapping back as relatively easy if you feel otherwise. It's a 2014, so HO 103 motor, rushmore creature comfort bits.

I remember this unit being stupid clean and seeming relatively stock. Wifey liked it too.

I know this is me saying this, so whatever. But if I were in a different place with the $ right this moment I'd be headed up to Pembroke after work and do the deal.

Go over there and see Dave Hemstreet, he's an LRRS guy that worked at Plaistow for a while and moved over to National 2 years ago. He has enough juice there to make you a sweet deal I expect. Also, it's February, they'll be fairly happy to be moving any bikes at all. Feel free to tell Dave I sent you over.

I have seen the new Goldwing with my own eyes and thrown a leg over it.

    Yowsa!

I like the Tour better, which surprised me.

There is no doubt that this is a cross country grand touring rocket ship.

But as the dealer said, “it’s an incredibly great bike that no one can afford.”

Yes, after the VFR1200f’s failed to move, their prices fell to earth. I doubt that will happen with the Goldwing.

It might. Word I hear is that motorcycle sales are in the toilet across the board here in the US.

You might be able to get a great deal on a '17 Goldwing. There seem to be substantial changes for the '18 model, so perhaps you can cut a deal on a '17.

When the F6B was released sales were slow. Poor quality control of the clear coat didn't help. The price for a new one dropped quite a bit below book. Its possible they'll be a few dealers willing to move the new model so they don't get stuck with them.

I owned an F6b and the clear coat issue was way overblown.

Re: Gold Wing vs. Road King ??? (maybe Triumph as well)

I took the VFR1200X out today and stopped to demo a new Gold Wing Tour MT. The GW is “all that and a bag of chips.”

Much smaller profile, great ergos, plenty of power, easy to lean and the new front suspension is terrific. That’s the good.

There’s a lot of tech I don’t need and the price is YIKES.

$27,200 for the Tour MT, $1,000 more for the DCT. Plus the dealer was talking freight & prep, which I have never paid.

The 2016 VFR1200X stickered for about 15,500 and has 7,800 miles. They offered $8,500-9,000 and actually told me that Honda is recommending that dealers, “Offer “rough” condition trade values on bikes in good condition because the GW’s will be hard to come by.”

The GW may be great, but I’ve done an 800 mile day on the VFR1200x and 500 miles a day is easy. I’m not feeling an $18-$20k upgrade cost. I could go to National, grab a ‘17 Triumph Trophy SE for 13K, keep the VFR1200x and still have $5k in my pocket...

They said the same things about the Africa Twin. The GW may have legs to actually deliver on it. But I'd pass too. Wait it out. See what happens. Whatchogut ain't that bad as it is..

Yeah, this is definitely a first world problem.

I’m thinking new sneakers for the VFR1200X (Michelin Anakee 3) and perhaps a CalSci screen.

Re: Gold Wing vs. Road King ??? (maybe Triumph as well)

Got a chance to test ride a 2018 107 "Milwaukee 8" Road King back to back with a 2014 103. The '18 is one damned fine bike. Harley is somewhat kidding itself with it's "OMG BEST SUSPENSION EVER GREATEST THING WOW WOW WOW" suspension upgrades. Its exactly like they finally stuck a mono-shock in the soft-tail and call it "revolutionary". Honda put their mono-shock on the XR100 kid's bike in like 1985. So meh. The engine is finally a 4 valve head. Nothing revolutionary there. So more meh.

But my gawd, is it a nice package. The whole bike just goes stupid smooth, stupid easy. New engine is noticeably smoother at idle, mirrors hardly even shake. Leaving a stop is easier. New bike has a hydro clutch too, which is easier.. although the engagement point is not where I expect it to be (and was with the cable clutch). I'd rather have the hydro clutch in traffic.. but found the cable clutch easier to apply.. unexpected. Both motors are very smooth underway. The M8 motor has a lot more at power at higher revs though. Roll on in 6th is punchier, blasts out of corners a bit easier. Was cold the day I rode. But supposedly the new motor is way better at managing heat. I read somewhere "100 degrees cooler". Not sure I buy that, but.

In the end the 18's are just too damned much money for me. You can get a non ABS for $18k. But I would want ABS.. and that's still an absurd quantity of money for a toy.

    But wow. Nice bike.
