    Goodbye and Hello

    Goodbye

    HELLO

Now don't get me wrong, I love the Triumph, but damn look at that Plasma Blue

    Just ordered:

Clear Alternatives Smoked Integrated Tail light
Clear Alternatives Smoked Flush Euro markers
    Kawi Solo Rear Cowl
    Michelin Pilot Power 2CTs
    Ebay Fender Eliminator

Bike is all original, 2 keys, original manual, totally 100% stock with the exception of the tank protector. 2,700 miles, original tires (with nubs on sides!), bought from original owner.

Just registered it this morning and can't wait to go for a ride tonight. Only other two things I would love to do are frame sliders and powdercoat the wheels gold.

I am doing an oil change to Mobil 1 4T and a coolant flush to Engine Ice this weekend. The oil is slightly milky as it hasn't been done since last year and the coolant level was below LOW so I will top it off for tonight/tomorrow so I can ride it.

Ah, candy plasma blue, my 2nd favorite Kawi color... Getting a completely unmolested 636 is an extremely rare find, congrats. I'd hurry and swap to the new tires before putting too many miles on, though.

    Re: Goodbye and Hello

Yeah, I am always warry about riding on such old tires. I'm going to try and control myself with really leaning it or anything. The front 2CT is out of stock and won't be shipped at least until next Tuesday so I hopefully will have them at the earliest for next weekend, but with ground shipping i'm thinking actually the following week.

So i'll just need to take it relatively easy. You think I can still lean at all or has the grip of the tires been that greatly reduced?

Looking at the rear of the tire the chicken strips are literally like 1 1/2" on each side. There are actually a few places on the middle tread you can still see a few very slight nubs.

Should be fine for the short-term, especially for regular street use. I wouldn't be concerned with amount of tread left, moreso about whether the compound has broken down at all. I'm sure you'll still get the grip you need. Five year old tires aren't too terrible, and average spirited riding should be fine...I just meant I wouldn't go barreling down the twisties or hitting up trackdays anytime soon.

My cousin has an '05 636, and I don't know if he's ever changed the tires (or cleaned the chain, or changed the oil for that matter ). But he only takes it out a couple of times a year now anyway.

Uhhhh milky oil and low coolant?

Sure hope the two aren't related.

I like the trumpet more but I am biased.

My friend had an 06 636 completely unmolested...its a great great bike, lots of power, and I'm sure you pocketed some decent cash.

I don't think so and I sure as hell hope not. I'm actually going to put distilled water in it now. I'll have another look at the oil.

    Re: Goodbye and Hello

So yeah, fun times. Bike won't start. Starter is spinning, but motor isn't cranking. The consensus is it might be the starter clutch gear. Pulling the stator cover tonight to check. On another note...enjoy.

Figured i'd amuse you guys for now, until I can get home to work on it.

This is my buddy getting ready to remove the airbox to see the nest underneath it. Yep nest, when I lifted the tank to look for the starter in the Walmart parking lot I saw it. Didn't see it when I inspected the bike.

You ready....are you?.....I give you, the Nest of Doom

I cleaned it all up and everything looks OK. Don't worry we made sure nothing got down the throttle bodies. For the size of that nest only two wires that we can see near it are very slightly frayed. Going to put a little liquid electrical tape and electrical tape after that to insulate the wires. Also going to check the rest of the wiring for frays. Fingers crossed that the rest of the wiring is OK

So back to the starter/starter clutch issue. I hope it is easy. The bike rides good though when I did ride. It started 4 times prior then the next time just the sound of the starter spinning. So fun times this weekend.

Bike looks great of course. Very clean (minus the nest). I think it sat in his detatched garage on a tender for a bit. I didn't ask him how long. Well I'm learning how to take the bike apart so that is the only plus I can see right now.
