More flat tracking at WVRC today. Really is a ton of fun. I'm going to have to make myself a hot shoe, I'm missing out without.

Thanks, I'm not totally lazy or incompetent, I tried google before I asked and got this.

Do know if people make their own?
From the sounds of the post below I dug up it sounds like you have to use a hardening material.
I see them online for $275 (lightshoes) - but that's prolly more than you were planning to spend for this whole endeavor....
It You're not going to go far in dirt track racing without a steel shoe. Also called a "hot shoe" because they really do get red hot from the friction. A good hot shoe is coated on the bottom with a hardening material. Without it, you'll burn through the shoe after a few races.
I highly recccomend the legend in Hot Shoes - George

Yeah there are lots of guys who make their own or know someone who can. It should be a pretty easy project and I'll look into something to spray on the bottom.

$225 for a mini wheel?!?
at that price I'd hope for a new hoop/spokes and have it laced!
but man, that XR100R is the *easiest* carburetor to take out/clean/adjust...flexible air box, 1 screw, 2 nuts, push off the gas line and you're done
turns out I have a 35 pilot/98 main...
bike starts pretty easy w' out choke...then races @ idle...so I backed out the idle adjustment screw to allow the rpm's to drop when you let off the throttle...then going to up that pilot from a 35 to a 38 so that it should idle all day and night
under WOT the bike *occasionally* stumbles a little bit, so I'm going to try the 100 main (which I know @Pinned is running w' good success) and see if she feels any better...bike will eventually get the FMF pipe w' spark arrestor so more fuel will be necessary at that point anyways. I called them up and they were actually pretty close to stock jetting, so I'm hoping 1-up on each side will be perfect
doing a moto lesson for some chick followed by a stunt sesh Tuesday...repeat the following thursday...then desert/camping in September!

FWIW, my 100 main is proving to be a bit big. I was going to drop down to a 98. Flat tracking it was doing just fine, not a lot of maintenance throttle there. It's either wide open or closed. I noticed putting around Loudon last round its pretty unhappy around 1/4-1/2 throttle.
Was shown a pretty sweet trick blocking off a portion of the air box to determine if its air starved or too lean. It helped me determine the bike was fairly rich.
Like you, I'll also be putting an FMF pipe on soon, as well as a pod filter. Jetting will of course change then, but I need it to be happy now. It doesn't take much to upset these little thumpers.

I know there was some talk about these on the facetubez... kurlon said this was a good deal because it has the 14 / 12 wheel setup (vs the smaller wheels on the one that's like 50 bucks less).
Is it easy to get pavement tires for these wheel sizes? for dicking around in parking lots and ripping around at NHMS?

you mean on the OEM dirt rims?
just know that you end up squeezing a tire onto a fairly narrow rim...so it works, just not spectacularly well
I'm pretty limited in knowledge here, but yes, for 14" and 12" you can definitely get scooter tires
I ran a 14" rear and it was sufficient
