    GP Shifting Dirt Bikes?

Does anyone know of a way to reverse the shift pattern on a dirt bike?

We just picked up a CRF100 this past weekend and we're having way to much in the backyard. The only hang up is that we're all so used to the GP pattern that we keep fooking up our shifts.

    Any suggestions? Thanks! - Seth

External linkage like on rearsets with levers in opposing directions... one upward the other down...?

    Yip, some kinda external linkage...

But do you really have THAT hard of a time with it? Fuck, my streetbike & ALL THREE ATV's all have different patterns = FOUR different shift patterns/techniques...

external linkage would break every time you fall. Not smart.

    Learn to ride.

If you all have that much of a problem I think something is wrong. My Trackbikes are GP, the streetbikes are regular. Do I wish they were all one way? Sure.

Regular shift is easy to remember. When GP shifting I just remember go fast, head down, shift down. Go slow, Pop up, shift up.

    Re: GP Shifting Dirt Bikes?

I leave my dirtbikes alone, because I downshift in the air more often then upshift leaned over...

although GP shift would be dope on a pit bike if it could be done easily... but it can't... U will need a linkage and given the set-up in the pic, I think it would end up handing below the cradle, making it the first thing to bottom.

The other option is to have someone cut you a new shift drum with the pattern reversed. Given how long that motor design has been around, you may be in luck and able to source a reverse pattern drum from either an import clone motor, or an older Honda model.

    Re: GP Shifting Dirt Bikes?

Thanks for the advice. Looks like we just need to sack up and learn how to ride it (none of us have had a dirt bike before).

We spent a few hours after work putting together a mini TT course. We've named it
"The Isle of Yard". Pics to come. The neighbors officially hate us.

    Re: GP Shifting Dirt Bikes?

Kitaco makes a 'standard' shift pattern drum for the NSF100, which is GP shift out of the crate. It takes the same drum as the CRF100/XR100. The NSF100 is normally GP shift as it has the shift lever aimed back towards the rider instead of forward like the XR100, so switching to the Kitaco drum will give you GP shift with your forward lever, no linkages/etc needed.
