After reading that thread I came away thinking the rider probably either did not understand countersteering *or* about braking in a corner, both of which are covered in MSF.

Good luck with your ride. You already have a good start by taking the MSF. That bike is still wicked fast, looks nice too.
    Very sad to read

    congrats bro...

And if i can learn to ride well on an '00 zx6r, u can learn to ride well on that... Is it the perfect beginner bike? no... would I recommend it? no... But if you follow the advice of people on here, go through the motions of educating yourself, always be aware of your mortality, ride with experienced riders that know what they're doing and listen to what they have to say you'll do just fine.

Doesn't matter what bike someone is starting off on, i'd have no problem riding w/ them as long as they demonstrate an appropriate level of maturity.

again... congrats & welcome to the addiction

Back in the day that 750 was a killer fast machine. Compared to current 600s it might not stack up, but it *is* way fast still and can get you into a heap o' trouble.

Sorry to be ruining your fun, but on ODFU they lost a rider last night who had only 4 days on the bike.
He already took the MSF and has 5 years of Dirt experience. Did you read his post?

Keep your right hand in check, and it shouldnt* be a problem.

*Assuming you have half a brain, which, after riding through NY state yesterday, I cannot give you the benefit of the doubt after seeing all the squidded out retards out there on there 06 Jixxahs and R1's posing at the local 7-11.

I bought a relatively "tame" I suppose 600 as my first bike. I never tried to bury the throttle the first 2-3 months I rode it, in fact I never even really pulled too hard exiting corners, and rode it relatively mildly. Below 6k its a kitten. On the other hand, I can ride the thing all day long keeping it up above 7k, and its a completely different bike. Not powerful enough to loft the front tire at will, but powerful enough to get the light end VERY light pulling out of corners, and things can get kind of squirrely on the front end.

Just use your brain and dont try to jump before you can walk, so to speak.

Thats wierd too, I was just on Rt. 44 yesterday, about 10 miles west of where that happened.

All weekend I saw a bunch of riders... and not a single one was in anything more than a t-shirt.

Saw one guy on a 'busa in shorts, a t-shirt and sneakers... his passenger had a tank top and shorts on. At least they had helmets on.

On my way up Rt. 2 towards NY, almost EVERY sport bike rider I passed had on full/nearly full gear!!!

In a sweet turn of events I got it insured ($480 a year!) and registered. Cruised around for the last hour or so, got gas. Man I've been waiting for this for years. It's like nothing else. Thanks everyone for the support, keep your heads up, I know I will out there.

My he R.I.P. It's always so sad to hear, especially being so young.

On our ride yesterday a majority of the riders weren't wearing any gear. I'd rather sweat and deal with the hot sun than risk the chance of getting hurt w/o the gear.

I know some prefer leathers or full textile, but with mesh fabric out there, there is reall no reasons not to wear any gear. I have a full mesh suit and loving it, it got armor in the right places and I can still enjoy riding in hot summer days. I woulnd't go on long rides with no gear. Had I not wear any yesterday, I'd probably have burn on my legs, and sand/rocks/dirt imprinted on my back and legs! Ouch...

Hey Zolden Congrats on the Bike! That is a sweet deal!

I had a 1995 ZX7 too so I know how heavy the pig is. I also know how fast it is when you get into the powerband, if you haven't reved it up there yet be warned it is a lil hit. (I may be able to help you with maintenance questions too)

I think that this bike is too big and too much for your average beginner, I think that you having taken the MSF course and have some dirt experience is a good thing in your case and I wouldn't list you as an average beginner.

Be good, take it easy, and WEAR THE GEAR!! (sounds like you are doing all the right stuff) and take the ERC course in a bit, then get to a track!

Sweet ride! Mine was the dark Purple, I love the green and white.
