Isn't Ari Henning from the Cape (Cod)?

If that video doesn't make you want one of those, nothing will.

at the end of the day, you've spent too much on your moped. And everything in that vid can be accomplished on a KLX110.

Now show me how good of a commuter this bike is, and I may be interested

A guy at work commutes on one everyday. Looks like he's having a blast every time I see him.

It's so small that I don't think people get all pissy if you're ripping around on it....

It's perfect for back road commuting. Very comfortable unless you're riding 2-up. Most of my 450 miles have been 2-up, since the wife loves "grommin" with me. Last week we rode from the canal to P-town and back, which was a bit much on a bike this small.

I saw one at bike night in Lowell that was setup very much like the black one in that video. Probably does not suck.

Everything but a valid street registration that would allow you to actually ride it on the street.

Is that true? No hope of street reg'ing a KLX110/CRF100/TTR125 or whatever? Or is that just a MA-ism? Google shows people in the midwest and such making it happen.

I'd still rather have a 'tarded up ~250cc.

In this particular instance I was referring to a MA-ism. However, the Grom, to my knowledge, does come with the ability to be street registered in 50 states as a motorcycle not a scooter or moped. The other bikes you mention in a lot of states will need loopholes and trickery to get registered whether as a moped/scooter or a motorcycle.

Yes that is Ari Henning from Cape Cod. His Dad was a ridiculously fast racer so it was definitely in his blood. Zack, Ari and I tore up the track as kids riding our bikes all over, hanging out in the luxury suites and generally causing a bit of mayhem. It is really cool to see videos of them doing what they love.

Looked like they had only played with style changes, suspension and motor appeared stock to me in that vid.

    Re: The Grom Escape

Both clearly had pipes. I'm guessing airbox mods too.. jetting maybe too.
Bike I saw at bike night last tuesday had a gorgeous pipe and manifold that was made from bigger tubing and straightened some of the tight bends the stock bike next to it had.

    Re: The Grom Escape

Yeah, but I wouldn't count on most pipes actually helping these things breathe. It's very VERY easy to overshoot the optimal exhaust diameter on those motors, what looks good via eyeball may not be helping. What I saw in the vid didn't imply much if any gain over stock performance.

Edit: RE Jetting... these are EFI, gotta spend a bit to muck with the mix on these.

    Too much.

What they had on those bikes easily exceeds the price of the bike itself. Source article: http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/features/grom_fever/

For example, you can easily double the cost of your $3,199 Grom with an assortment of accessories, as powerhouse aftermarket manufacturer Yoshimura R&D has done with the two Groms shown here. These bling-laden playbikes might make you shake your head in wonder and disbelief, but the fact remains that Yosh, among others, is simply reacting to demand. Companies keep their ears to the ground listening for just the sort of buzz that surrounds the Grom, and they're responding to the excitement.

Outfitted with Yoshimura exhausts, Race Tech and Öhlins suspension components, Galfer brake discs and lines, and even a Bazzaz fuel controller and Yoshimura race cam from Japan, these two bikes are prime examples of the sort of modifications owners can make to their Groms.

    Re: The Grom Escape

Cool, that confirms on the motor side: Not much of a gain. Cam plus pipe plus exhaust plus Bazzaz is going to be hard pressed to show 2hp more. To make that motor do anything you gotta actually get into the head and intake path. Didn't realize they dumped that much into the suspension. I'd be curious to see how that fork feels post upgrade...
