Have you sat on a 675 yet, and found it to be relatively comfortable?

Its a pretty big jump going from a 250 to a super-sporty 675. Not saying it can't be done, just something to think about.

What are the other candidates (if any)?

Rode one on the track... LOVED it.

Haven't ridden one on the street... but I probalby wouldn't be having much fun if i was on it for more than 50 miles straight. It's not terribly comfortable.

On the plus side, the brakes are very responsive, throttle is very responsive, handling is very responsive. So if someone wasn't terribly smooth on the controls I could see them complaining that it's a bit twitchy at first until they get used to it.

It'd also be a HUGE leap from an EX250. There's almost no comparison whatsoever other than the fact that they're both motorcycles. It'd be like riding a bike from a different planet. Go try it out

SV650 or Ducati Monster are both great choices...I'm a TWIN biggot though...just love the way they put power to the ground.

The EX250 is a great first bike. I had one my first season then moved up to a 600 the next. What is it about the 250 that you like and dislike? That may give us a better idea of what a good next bike would be.

If the SV is also a choice, I'd say just sit on them both. The SV will save you lost of cash, be just as much fun, and marginally cheaper to maintain.

If you're simply in love with the 675, get one. But if the SV will do the same job for less money, it makes good sense and will be a much easier transition from your current bike.

its got no torque heh everything under 8k is gradual and a little slow for my liking. i'm pretty small so the 250 was alright in size and i was a little hesitant to try riding a bigger bike but after riding the SV650S, i didn't really feel that it was too big or overwhelming in anyway. i don't ever forsee needing something bigger than the 600 class...

i want something with better handling, more torque, more power...basically an upgrade

i do love the lil' ninja though and i'm considering keeping it even if i get a new bike...we've had some pretty awesome memories

If you find the 675 too uncomfortable (which I bet you will), take a look at the new Street Triple. It's basically a naked 675 (with a few lower level parts).

I don't think the 675 is any less comfortable than any sport bike. Lots of people doing 300 plus mile days on em. I've done em on the 1098 which is no more comfortable than the 675.

I don't know how many miles you've done on the 250, nor what type of a rider you are (cautious, smooth etc) but if you like the way it looks and feels, go for it. Its a motorcycle, its not supposed to be practical. Its supposed to be fun and if an SV doesn't do it for you then its not the right bike for you.

I picked up my 675 in October and absolutely love it. It has all the power you will ever need, handles amazingly, more torque than the inline 4's, and looks/sounds phenomenal. And as previously mentioned, take a ride up to Second Wind Triumph in NH, the folks there are great. Nic took care of me from the minute I walked in the door just to take a look at the bike with no intention to buy, all the way through a few weeks after I brought it home, calling to see what I thought of the bike. Let me know if you have any other questions about the bike it self. Maybe Hoss will chime in also, as he too has a 675.

Hey Steph. I was on a 675 briefly. cool bike, but its definitely taller than the SV650. I could barely put both toes down on it.

I don't think being a little on the short side for a bike is much of a problem, but it would make getting comfortable with a bike your not used to a little harder.

    Lady flying

Good you started on the 250...

My question is how many miles/how long were you riding
Owning doesn't count, time in saddle counts

Like to think you had around 3000 miles before upgrade. If not then then take baby step to a used 500 twin. Compared to your 250 it will be a rocket ship and capable of running with the big dogs.

Good news is you really can't buy a BAD motorcycle anymore.

Everyone who owns a sv650 loves them and good clean used ones are all over.

If you haven't already ARMOR UP !!

Re: What do you guys think...

I love my 675. I have about 6K miles on it and its a blast. I actually also had a Ninja 250 (my wife's bike) until recently and can safely say they are nothing alike The 250 is very upright compared to the Daytona. In that regard, I think the SV650 is a lot closer match.

But if you're sensible with the throttle, I don't think its impossible to make that transition.

I test rode the naked version as well (Street Triple 675), and I might have even preferred it over the Daytona (if we're disregarding the need for wind protection). I liked the retune of the engine, shifting the power into the lower rev range.

All that said, I think you should also consider the SV650 or the Ninja 650.

Definitly time to upgrade. when I rode your 250 I felt like I was on a pocket bike.

Either choice would be great in comparison, but i know nothing of either.

Good luck and keep me posted. I'll hopefully have one by the time school is out.
