    It happened

Thought it would be awesome to get another day of riding in before snow started flying. I rode over to meet up with a friend so we could go for a quick30min ride around our little town. Everything was going good besides my hands getting alittle cold. I came up to this sharp corner and learned the hard way I need a new front tire. Bike slipped out on me at about 60mph and down the road I went. I was so dumb for not riding with leathers and the rash all over my arm will remind me that ill never do that again. I wasnt hurt besides my left arm is alittle rashed but my gloves saved my hands which im very thankful for. All in all the frame sliders took almost all the damage. only thing that broke was my windsheild and my cocky "I cant fall attitude".
Ive learned from today and now looking into buying a new front tire and a leather jacket and maybe some riding boots.
Just thought I would share my story.

Sorry about the crash. Seems like you're giving yourself some very good advice. While you're looking at jackets, consider getting something that will protect your lower body too.

    Re: It happened

Had a close call a few weeks ago... Was on a road I've never been on before, and came up on a turn off I was supposed to make. Decided quickly to brake somewhat hard to make the corner, instead of going straight and finding a place to turn around. I had just left from this guys house about a football feild away, so the tires were cold as well as the road (Was a colder night). I didn't grab the brakes, or brake harder then I normally do, if the tires were warm It would've been an easy turn to make. But the front tire slid out to the left on me, and at 40 mph I dropped my right leg to the ground, got off the brakes, and on the gas. Missed the turn, but at least managed to not drop the bike. Was the closest I think I could've been to dumping the bike without actually dumping it.

Cold roads aren't fun... definitely have to step it down a bit more then normal. Glad you're alright.

    Re: It happened

I saw the pics on Facebook (mutual friend). Could have been worse, but yeah, leathers would have saved you some pain.

This time of year is tricky -- I love riding in the fall and winter, but tires are nowhere near as sticky, so I ride like I would on brand-new tires or on a rainy day, ie, no aggressive cornering or hard braking.

Heal up, and come to Bike Night and let Doc talk to you about ATGATT.

    Re: It happened

Personally I can't really recommend any Fieldsheer stuff. I had gloves that blew a seam in one of the fingers after a month of use, and the shoulder of my jacket tore away like paper in my crash, though the armor underneath did have an outer plastic layer that ground against the pavement keeping me injury free. It certainly beats no gear though.
