    Hard acceleration

Why is it when I see a Harley(not just a cruiser, but actually just Harleys) when they romp on the throttlethe top of the bike leans to the right, kinda like the tourque is twisting the bike? Seriously, like 6 or 8 bikes I've been around in the last week seem to all do this, is it just the idiot contolling the bike, or does it have to do with the massive transmissions

    Hehehehe....you said hard.

Having never ridden a Harley, I cant tell you for sure, but I think you're on the right track with the massive tranny theory. Those things still work on 1950's technology, so I'm sure there is a good amount of torque steer/twist.

I've noticed that when riding behind them myself.

I think it's cause the rider is tending to push on the handlebar as he twists the throttle due to the forward control system and the ape hanger handlebars ... and you know they are always low on blinker fluid because they have self cancelling turn signals. and quite possibly as you know ,they always exit both exausts to the right handside, maybe its due to both mufflerbearing being on the right hand side of the bike

I don't think it has anything to do with engine torque, they mounted the engine in away that the massive torque would keep it from lofting the front wheel.

If the motor was mounted like a Guzzi, I'd agree

I'm with Randy, I think its just the HD clan flapping away.

Ever seen it happen with a 100lb rider?

1950's technology? Talk about being generous!

More like WW1 technology. The only difference is the better quality metals of today.

    Exactly!

Why in hell did HD have to go to Porsche for an engine?

The land of the small-block Chevy has to have the German's design an engine for them????

Did Porsche design that motor? I thought they designed the bike's styling and handling, but I didn't know that they had anything to do with the motor. If they really did, I'd consider a V-Rod for a second bike, Porsche builds a pretty good, though often over-engineered, motor.

They were involved with the V-Rod, as well as the EVO's
it's hard to make horsepower, and keep emissions in check with big bore twins....Especially the EVO's...now 88's and twin cams.
But like anything else it's the look, the sound, and the overpricing of the damn things that catch a certain crowd I guess...

    Oh I can't resist
If you going to throw money at a big V twin the TL1000ís and the SV1000ís Make boat loads of HP and torque with a whopping 61cubic inch displacement and have 6 feet less cam chain to boot.
You can buy 3 for the price of a "Good Harley".

The frame on Harley's is freakin pathetic... that's gotta have a lot to do with it...

They still have a single top tube made of steel... like a BICYCLE! I wouldn't be surprised if some mountain bike top tubes with ovalized/squared profiles & gussetted welds are actually stiffer.

Pretty crazy as some of the sportbike frames must weigh like 1/4 what a Hog frame weighs and they can deal with an incredible amount of power in comparison.

It's one of the "issues" the faithful have with the VROD... the perimeter frame on the VRod is much stiffer but the visibility of the frame tubes under the tank is considered ugly.

I like the frame twisting idea

I also think HaDa's have a more than 1/2 turn throttle so you really have to move your entire arm through an arc to full throttle and release the massive 50 HP
