    Harsh and objectionable

90-16 Civil Harsh and Objectionable $50

Ticket #1. (It was Newburyport, to be expected I guess.)

Although I did say to him, "Umm, dude, Harley's are WAY louder...".

"Yeah, those are Harley's though. Is this under 80 decibels?" <-- WTF so Harley's are exempt??

"Well, I haven't *personally* measured it. Do *you* have equipment like that at home sir?"

    "License and registration please."

Then he proceeded to extended his baton to 3 feet and ram it up my completely unobstructed rear end.

Oh well. Small price to pay when cagers actually change lanes AWAY from me because of the noise, and I can see them looking around when I'm 8 cars back. I forgot to tell him about that part though.

No points. Just gonna donate $50 everytime I get pulled I guess.

Anyone know if they check how many times you've been cited for a specific fix-it offence and if the penalty gets steeper?

    This *is* the new pipe.

And like I said people change lanes away from me. And I see heads swiveling around long before I reach them.

    Worth $50 occasionally to me.

It's a stainless Hindle Mega race pipe. (Kitt's old pipe)

For what it's worth, after I got ticketed and told the guy I would promptly leave Newburyport, I saw some kid on BMX bike checking me out.. I was waiting for the wheelie sign (not that I was about to get more tickets), but when I got close he just stuck his fingers in his ears... I mean that's pretty bad if fucking adolescent KIDS are plugging their ears.

I still wanna know WTF about the Harley thing, though. I *guarantee* my stepdad's 45 is louder than my bike.

It sounds like someone took off the baffle and bolted up a loud speaker to the headers.

I swear to god I was doing like 25 in 5th gear too, to keep it quiet in town. No throttle or anything.. just listening to that buffeting the air does at the back of the pipe when you aren't really on the gas... Fucker still pulled me and said he heard me halfway back up the street.

I still wanna know why it's ok for Harley's.

Yeah see above, was trying to really control the high pitch part.

But yes, it fucking screams like a banshee when I'm on it.

Because Harleys are mostly an older cruising crowd. Sportbikes are all young punks pulling wheelies and endangering little old ladys on their way to church on Sunday. Its a perception thing.

Low pitched noise is acctually louder and carries further. Think of elephants vs a crow... you'd say the crow is louder right next to your ear, but the elephant can be heard for miles. Not saying that harley's are out of our hearing range....

But picture this... what's more painful... sitting in a car w/ the bass thumping... or having one of those microphone squeals like the mic's too close to the speaker. Which one do people cover their ears for?

My pipe is wicked loud too. i have a stainless Yoshi pipe that's about 8 inches long with no baffle, and no packing inside it either. Its right after my right footpeg too (streetfighter). and on a 1200 @ 10k rpm, it is loud but not as piercing as a 15k rpm 600. (we compared mine vs my buddies cbr600 w/ a short undertail pipe) suprisingly, they're about the same annoyance level... even though we both know mine is 'louder'.

I think the cop was ticketing you with the annoyance factor. Damn prejudice against street bikes!

No higher frequency doesn't carry farther... also decibels are unrelated to frequency (at least in air @ sea level in human audible frequencies)
