    header paint?

if I ever get to doing what I wanna on the Kat this winter, I'm planning to clean corrosion & repaint the headers.

any suggestions for a hi-temp paint I can just get in a spray can that won't burn off the 1st time I fire the motor back up?

    header paint?

What about that flat black paint they sell at wallmart to repaint your gas grille? I assume it is heat resistant........

On the other hand might it also act as an insulator to the pipe causing some sort of heat dammage?????
    Dunno, never tried it.

Glad I could be of "help"

    carry on..............

Maybe engine paint? I know it's hi-temp paint, but nobody's engine gets as hot as your headers will...

yeah, I know they got it... problem is, half of the stuff I've bought over the years (for cars) burned off the first time I fired up the motor.

looking to find out a brand / type / composition that'll stay stuck, and not go off in a cloud of smoke...

    Jeff,

Have ya considered powder-coating the pipes? They can also do the inside which can keep the pipes cooler.

    header paint?

I believe coating the inside of the pipes keeps the heat in the exhaust gasses, rather than being transfered to the headers and then back to the block, so the engine runs cooler. Also, I hear jet-hot can be iffy, I know a company was makeing jet-hot coated y pipes for my car, and a few of the people who bought them had the jet-hot flake off after very few miles...

    From the website:

What kind of guarantee do I get?

When coated inside and out, all parts have a 3 year satisfaction guarantee: new parts also get lifetime rust-through coverage

    header paint?

I have had good luck with this company's products:
    http://www.eastwoodcompany.com/

They have header paint that you brush on and then cure in an oven. (when the wife and kids are NOT home...the fumes are intense) It holds up quite well on automobiles. I have not tried it on a motorcycle. Of course, if your bike exhaust is a one-piece unit, it may not fit in your home oven.

Just go to the web site above and type in HEADER PAINT in their quick search box.

They also have special paste to remove the bluing from chrome exhausts...I am probably going to order some soon to use on my scooter...

Do not use your home oven to bake coatings!!!!! It leaves a residue in the oven!!!!!!! I'm quite sure you don't want carcinogens in your Meatloaf.
