    Heads up on blind turns

    No joke.

Note the person on the cruiser that able to avoid the accident and immediately ran to the entry of the turn to warn traffic going into that corner? That guy clearly is experienced and know what he is and supposed to be doing.

Re: Heads up on blind turns

    I think I pooped a little

Gotta love how the cop does nothing to warn traffic. I know he was probably doing paperwork or something , but he could have at least waited until backup arrived.

EDIT: Looks like the cop just arrived on scene.

Re: Heads up on blind turns

This was actually something we had to practice during a long trip when 2 of us crashed (different days, both near blind corners). Two guys would help and the third would play traffic cop. I probably wouldn't have thought of it if the guy that was in the back hadn't had such good situational awareness, but now it's one of the first things I look for. It makes a big difference for the stress level of everybody involved when you can focus more on the rider and worry less about traffic.

Good call. You are exactly right... you have to assess the scene, and go from there. That guy may have saved another rider from a similar fate.

I always imagine a manure spreader doing 5 MPH or a car flat bed and you get decapitated.

Point and shoot... Enter corner more slowly and when you can see then grab a handful. I always wince when I hear guys talking about carrying speed into street corners.

YES the LEO is a useless douche and if he had been there more than 30 seconds should be fired. What if a loaded semi was the next thing around that corner the 1st biker would be squished.

the first guy crashed for reveal reasons all due to his lack of riding skills and maybe a little target fixation.

it had nothing to do with the cop

too many people including the ones in the video turn in to early

this explains why you are painfully slow in the corners

at the speeds they were going (slow) and or faster, the lead guy could had just stopped before the other crash if he knew how to ride and stop.

Re: Heads up on blind turns

Good time to review the sticky What To Do : http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...5-what-do.html ?

Watching the video before reading even the OP's own comments, I was immediately impressed that the rider ran right past the cop to stop traffic. In my opinion, its real difficult to judge the cops actions as good or bad, but why did he not have the light-bar on? Might indicate a problem rather than stopping on the side of the road to watch for speeders. I'm always worried about this kind of stuff coming in to off-ramps moderately quick. Some around here, especially the one I take to get home everyday are super blind, with really short distance to react. Sure, its "always" clear, but that one day someone's car broke down makes me keep ready on the brake.

Re: Heads up on blind turns

Ok so was the cop sitting in the blind corner running radar? He was on scene QUICK!

Glad everyone looks to be ok, great early season group ride reminder.

Re: Heads up on blind turns

It's really hard to see but to me it looks like the police car is still moving in the beginning of the video.

Just a guess but maybe the first downed rider saw the oncoming police car and ham-fisted the brakes mid corner. The bike slid into the car and the officer stopped. Maybe the rider just checked up and the rider behind him didn't expect it and was following too closely. Hard to say.
