    Heli Bars, anyone used them?

    Hello Everyone,

While I am loving my new CBR600RR I find that I cannot sit all the way back on the seat and have to sit up on the tank for comfort/control. If I slide all the way back the bike feels a bit unstable, this is due to not having tank pads so my knees slide. My arms are also reached way forward and I feel like I am stretching to remain in that position.

I went to Ronnie's Cycles today to talk to them about what could be done to the bike and they suggested Heli Bars. However to buy the product and have installation completed it is going to be about $400-$450 so before dumping that into the bike I wanted to see if anyone has used them and what thier thoughts were.

    http://www.helibars.com/product/cbr600rr-07-09

buy 'em online and put 'em on yourself save yourself 200$

don't have any experience with 'em, but a 1.75" rise and a 5/8" rear offset should deffinately help with the riding position and the wider bars should help with control.

Also you can get a custom seat made or make a custom seat made to be more flat instead of one that slides you down into the tank which will help hold you where you want to be. here's how to build your own custom seat

It will make a substantial difference. I have them on my VFR and the reach to the handlebar and lean angle is much better. Check out cycle-ergo.com and put your height and check to see how much difference it will make with your bike. It is noticeable better with my bike. Keep in mind, your screen will probably be a tad low after you install helibars

I use ConvertiBars on my Daytona and love them. They're basically infinitely adjustable. http://www.convertibars.com/

I see they don't show a "confirmed" fit for your bike. If you want to be a guinea pig you can get a 40% discount.

I have the Woodcraft Bar Risers (you can buy them from Mr. Kurtz and MTAG). (www.goMTAG.com)

Work great and you can choose the height.

I have the 1.5 inch rise on my CBR600rr (2008 model). You're welcome to sit on the bike and get a feel for it.

I have them on my R1 and had them on my R6. They are awesome.

Edit: Don't pay to have them installed, it takes less than an hour. Any shop wanting to charge $200 to install them is ripping you off. I'm sure a ton of us here would be glad to help you install them, but really it's completely simple. Take the controls off, swap out the clipons, put the controls back on and you're done.

I have 4" heli risers on my ZX11. I actually cut them down to 2.5 inches which is a huge improvement over stock. Very comfortable and adjustable to just about anybody. Highly suggest .

are those much different than stock? I know Woodcraft says to get them because of clearance issues with the regular no rise clip ons. I have them too and I like them but I bought the bike with them so I have no reference to stock.

I'd check how much higher bars will interfere with clearances on stuff like the tank and upper fairing. I know the Woodcrafts say go higher because the no rise will hit the upper fairing stay, seen it on a bike with regular vortex clip ons.

I have Helibars on my 929 (on it when I bought the bike) and had stock on my previous 929. I think the Helis are a little better but I always still got tired arms and my ass would hurt (that was probably more from the piece of plywood Honda calls a seat). I think it's more of an issue with me being really short and having short arms that makes them not as good as I'd like. they should be an improvement though.

Re: Heli Bars, anyone used them?

Thanks for all the feedback on these. One more question though.

I am looking at some that are 1.5" risers. Does that mean 1.5" higher than stock or is this measured by some point on the bike?

I only need them raised about an inch but do not know if the stock are 0" risers or maybe 1" risers already.

    Thanks

    Go for Woodcraft risers.
    Replacement parts are easily gotten.
You can always change the riser height in 5 minutes.
pm. me for pricing with your rise height desire.
I have them all in stock. Bars come in silver or black.

1.5" means 1.5" higher than 0" rise as far as Woodcraft clip-on risers.
What's your stock rise, if any?

Woodcraft will be your best option. it's been said on here that many people use and recommend them. plus they're local, so parts and easily available and quick to ship.

I have been planning on Woodcraft for the risers, sliders, spools.

I am not sure what the stock rise is on my bike I will have to google and see if I can figure it out

    Thanks

the sliders are another great product as well.
i went with the non-slider spools, as i've heard them can sometimes cause a broken swingarm tab in the event of a crash.

Had the 1.5" Woodcraft risers in the 1000RR I just sold. They were about 1/2" higher than stock and made a definitely improvement in riding position.

Don't go too high, otherwise you may have fitment issues with the brake reservoir. I had a double bubble windscreen on the 1000RR and it just cleared with the 1.5" risers.

your stock bars do have a rise, not completely sure how high it is. I know if you go with the Woodcrafts you need a rise, I think its the 1.5" I have them on my race bike and they're nice, can't speak of the comfort since I'm not on it long periods. regular clip ons with no rise will interfere with the upper fairing stay so you need some kind of rise so I think if you're going for a little more comfort maybe the 3" rise might good. could run into upper fairing clearance issues though and throttle cable and brake line length issues. both of those you'll probably have problems with no matter what brand bars you go with.

Great information. Once my bikes out of the shop I will check for clearance issues.

    Thanks
