    Helmet Identification

Does anyone know what this helmet is called? I'm trying to figure out how old it is and what MSRP is/was... Google is failing me tonight!
Any help would be great, thanks!

That an RF1000? Don't recognize the paint scheme but that shape & diffuser look familiar.

No. A helmet is a pretty personal item in my opinion, for me it would be like buying used underwear off of Craigslist.

What if its fairly cheap - you're on an island... And you want to ride, have the opportunity, but no helmet... Does that change anything?
Besides - I'm sure people wear used underwear

    Re: Helmet Identification

Eh... if it's in super good condition and very lightly worn, I MAY consider it, but only if it's a smokin deal.

Still not enough to get me to buy something that someone else has sweated in for who only knows how many hours and put it on my head. If I'm on an island, I can probably find something else to do that would be just as much fun as riding in a used helmet

    Re: Helmet Identification

Aside from the size question (A poorly fitting helmet is better than no helmet at all. But a properly fitting helmet is far more effective) the question of age is also important. I would insist the seller disclose the date of manufacture. For track days and racing it must be no more than 5 years old. The belief is the expanded poly stirene begins to break down is is less effective. So, if it was manufactured in Jan of 2009 you'll only get 2 'legitimate' years out of it.

    Other than that....what they said

I'd buy a new one. There must be a shop on said island.

Aside from the other persons head issue, not knowing how they cared for it is an issue for me.

    Re: Helmet Identification

How do you care for a helmet, other than not dropping it? I assume a good washing of the pads is all that is needed to remove any stink that a helmet might have, but what else could you possibly take care of?

I think dropping is what they are referring to.

    Re: Helmet Identification

The manufacturing date is on the helmet - on Arai it's on the chin strap. On the Shoei I have it's on a label inside the helmet.

Dropping it, washing it, modifications, using harsh chemicals to clean it... lots of unknown things.

    Re: Helmet Identification

In Japan, creepy dudes will pay huge money to have your used underwear. Maybe you could sell them some to cover the cost of the helmet?

I've bought some lightly used after a good inspection and more heavily used for some lady friends. Most can be hand washed or dishwasher washed if the helmet if the helmet is structurally good.

Not gonna lie - when I read this - I seriously thought you were talking about underwear. Thanks for the laugh

In regards to the helmet - I'm not buying one here. I'm looking into a new one though it's time.

Me too, I had to read it a few times before I was absolutely certain. Then I just laughed my ass off!
