I am looking to replace my 7 year old Arai helmet. I am mainly interested in the Shoei model X-11. Does anyone have any experience or comments with this model?

Can't tell you about the X-11 but I love my Z-II... if the X-11 is really "better" than the Z-II it must be fantastic.

i love my Shoei RF1000, it's a step below what you're lookin at. it's pretty well known that Arai and Shoei fit two different types of heads... so i suggest you just head out to a place that sells both & try each one on & see how they do. you'll be more than happy w/ either one as long as it fits you right.

I would like to try on the Shoei X-11 and an Ariai ( Quantium, RX7, or Astral ) at the same place. Unfortunately, I have not found a place that has in house stock in a large size. It's hard to deciede when you can't do a side by side comparison.

if you can make the trip down to Brockton Cycles they carry a TON of helmets... Arai, Shoei, Suomy, HJC, etc etc.

I swear by the RX7 on the street but it's got a big price tag. I think I'm picking up a couple HJC's for the track.

The Z-II and X-11 are up into the price range of the Arai helmets so if you are spending that much you can't ignore the Arais.

I am not sure why but Shoei is marketing the RF-1000 hard, when in reality the Z-II and X-11 are their high end helmets.

Anyway you gotta try on both and see what fits you better. The Z-II and X-11 both fit me much better than the Quantum, and as far as I could tell they were built better.

Jay, helmets are now consumables for you. spend as little as you can as you will be replacing lids a lot more than you're used to. In fact, just stop spending on street gear NOW. You'll need the money before the season is over.

    I really like my X11.
It's light and it vents really well.
I wear earplugs most times but when I don't it doesn't seem any louder than my old rf-700.

i've got an x-11 and a z-II and i'm really happy with them both. i used to have an rf-800 but i find these to be much nicer in comfort/venting. i've tried all the different arai helmets with various pads but i just can't get one to fit me properly. seems i am a shoei head.

OK, on the helmet note, I been thinking I might like to pick up a new lid. Right now I have a Shoei RF-900 and I like it plenty, but I was wonderin if any of the other folks out their with big noggins have had any luck with Arai... Seems for me Shoeis have always been more comfortable, but haven't tried any new lids lately...

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

FWIW, the most comfortable helmet I have ever had was an HJC, and I have a big, stupid pumpkin head.

The Arais were second best, although the one I had must have been made at about 4:55 on a Friday afternoon because the damn thing fell apart - all of the air vents fell out, and the shield fell off while I was riding down the interstate once.

I have an AGV now, which is good, but not nearly as comfy as the HJC.

I'm riding with my new Arai RX7 for the first time today and could not be happier with it.

Get what fits your head best is all that really matters so long as you are looking at quality helmets.

I just bought a Shoei RF-900 and it is night and day compared to my HJC. I can't afford Arai (wife says my heads not worth that much) so I am content and very pleased with the Shoei so far.

Try a Suomy helmet on. I owned a older Shoei and the Suomy put it to shame. They carry them at Seacoast Sport Cycles, and last I knew Argo as well.

My biggest complaint about the Suomys is that the fancy paint fades in a season... especially the orange, but all the colors...
