    Need some help

Hey guys I'm trying to figure out what bike i should get. I need something that I can do sweet wheelies, burnouts, and go fast down the highway.jk. I've been looking at degsy's rr and an 02 monster 620 dark. Both are the same price (3800), the monster has 4600 miles on it and appears to be in pretty good shape. I'm mainly going to be using the bike for street rides and a few track days for now. I would like to start getting into racing once I'm done with school in a couple of years. I know Degsy's bike has a mechanic's lein on it and I'm not even sure if it would be an option to get it registered for the road. So I guess my question is if you had 3800 to spend on either of the two which would you get?

Buy an SV or a bigger Duc. The 620 is a kid's bike.

Bruce put my GF on a M750 (when he still owned BCM) for her 1st bike and she rips on it. Said there's not much difference between the two, and the 750's a better bike.

    My $0.02.

    First bike?

I think a twin is easier to do wheelies and burnouts with... but I am biased.

I don't think you can put Degsy's bike on the street.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

Yea this is my first bike, ahaha i have no intentions of attempting any goon riding for a long time. As far as the size of monster, i know it's small but i figure it's better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. The only real reason i'm thinking of the rr is that i could progress into it, that and it's the same price of the monster.

    +1 on slow bike fast!

I am not sure how old or how big you are but you can have more freekin fun on a monster than you can imagine...unless you are over 200 lbs and 6' tall!

I don't think you ever out grow a bike like that. You may get additional bikes or replace it...but if you do you will always miss it!!!

my opinion....not to be confused with fact!

my bike will never be street legal without me doing a lot of paperwork, which I'm not gonna do. It's a track-only bike. Sorry Lawndart.

ahaha well that made my choice a bit easier. Still i'd like to hear what people have to think. I'm sure there are alot of 600's kicking around out there for short change. Do you guys think that 3800 for the monster is a fair deal?

DucDave- ahaha it would seem i'm too big for the bike than, i'm 6'3 190

Kelly lists that bike at 4555 with a trade in at 3090. Kelly usually runs a bit high with both of these numbers though. $3800 certainly isn't a bad deal, but the most important question to ask yourself is - Is the bike worth you spending $3800 to have?

What may be a great deal to me could be completely different to you. I think that would be a perfectly fair deal for both parties.

Like mine for say.... $3250 after I get a few things taken care of for ya?

I say at least go check out the 620, throw a leg over it & see how ya feel about it. They might be slow but I always hear about how they're fun, reliable & bulletproof.

If ya don't like it then just keep an eye out on the market for other options that are in the 3500 dollar neighborhood.

+2 on the "it's better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow" Make that your mantra for your ENTIRE riding career and you can't go wrong.

Buying a bike that is too much to handle and thinking you will grow into it is the wrong way to think. I still believe 600's can be unforgiving machines.

A Twin is more forgiving and I think a 620 would be a fine bike for you to start with. They are easy to work on, plenty of upgrades bolt on and you will have a Ducati! Just telling people thta will gain you street cred to the uninformed.

I had a 750ss as my 3rd streetbike. It still made me say "WOW!", I never grew into that bike (I wrecked it and "moved up" to a 900ss) and I recently sold my 900ss so I could afford to race an 800ss. My streetbike is another twin, a 700cc Honda Hawk GT.

might not want to start off on a 600 supersport...

get a ninja250/500 or something and rip around on that for a season or two -- chances are it'll make you a better rider than you would otherwise have been, and you're much less likely to shizblast yourself into a tree or something.

that said, SV650s make a fantastic second bike, as it's a thoroughly entertaining hooligan bike but is still a middleweight...

Lawnie's gonna go look at the 620 tomorrow & throw a leg over it... Hopfully I'll be there with him to fuck it up... er... i mean help him out.

Just to confirm, $3800 for an 02 monster 620 dark is a decent price assuming it's in tip top condition, correct? I'm not sure what the market is like on these bikes nor what the maintinance schedule is like.

    Any definitive input?

Don't worry about the "this bike might not be big enough for him" issue... we'll find that out for sure tomorrow. I just want him to be prepared & knowledgable about the bike if he DOES like it.

I would not hesitate to recommend a SV to anyone. The bike is really fun and has treated me very well in the two seasons I've had it.

My first bike was a Ninja 500, and was a great starter bike. Looking back I could have easily dealt with the SV as a first bike, but the Ninja was used and already had a minor fall from the previous owner. The first time you drop your bike you don't want it to be new, it'll hurt you way more
