Can you help with this bike-related dilemma?

I might be riding 150 miles this weekend. It'll be my first group ride, and meet with other members of this board.

    So what should I do?

    1. Play it cool. Leave the seat cowl on and ride on the stock seat all day. My butt hurts after an hour on that thing and the banana-seat is the equivalent of humping a flag pole.

    2. Take a risk and look bad doing it: Take off the seat cowl, put on the factory tail fairing/side panels, and try out the used Corbin seat. It's old, I've never ridden on it for a long trip, and it's black/red, but I've heard Corbin seats are intentionally stiff for long-ride comfort.

I like my corbin, I leave it on except for trackdays. Dunno about your bike but on the 98 6r the seat is lower and wider, with a nice ass groove for your seat, feels more natural sitting on it and the weight is more properly dispersed so you don't end up with "hot spots" like you would on the stock seat. Also, the ass groove keeps your weight off the boys.

Also is that a light purple rim I spy? I'm thinking the seat cowl is the least of your fashion issues

    Woohoo post #2600! I'm l33t, bizzatches!

And for your info, cookiebizzle (edited up so as not to screw with my mad l33tness), my bike is painted in a lovely shade of royal purple metal flake. Not some frilly poofta lilac purple.

    No offense, Bhavesh

Take ibuprofen before and during the ride and your butt won't care what seat you are on.

Every corbin seat I have sat on has been more comfortable than the stock seat it replaces. Once you start having fun, you will completely forget how much your ass hurts if at all! As soon as you hit the highway to slab it home, that is when you will notice it.

Don't worry about all the haters. They don't have Kawasakis and just don't understand!

I would try the other seat to see if you like it better. If you are worried about cosmetics then you can address them later, I don't think the seat/cowl color is going to make a big difference one way or the other. Plus when you sit on the bike it's less noticable.

If you are really into the bike you could probably do a quickie paint job that would make it look not so bad. Graphite grey would look ok. Rattle-can flat black would be cheaper

    Good luck...!

I think I'm going to go with #2: the red/black corbin seat.

It's more comfortable (comfort = fun), and I can strap a backpack to it, with a toolkit inside.
