Yup, between this board, craigslist, and an MIT motorcycling group (I'm not an alum, someone just pointed me to them), I've had lots of offers for help. I've set things up with a couple of people, but I'm sure that I'll take others up on their offers as time goes on.

I do civil litigation and white collar defense at a large firm, but I don't have a specialty yet as I'm only entering my third year. Most of our cases involve corporate clients or "high net worth" individuals, but I've also done some pro bono work for people seeking social security disability benefits.

Send me a private message if you really have a question. The best thing to do is to retain your own attorney, blah blah blah, and I can't give firm advice to nonclients, blah blah blah. Still, I might be able to give you a rough opinion of what your options are.

My proficiency is LOW. I took the motorcycle safety course and did fine, but that was almost six weeks ago. I think I'll be fine for street practice once I have a few hours in a parking lot, but at this point, I don't feel like I could get to the parking lot on my own - at least not at any time other than the crack of dawn on a weekend morning. My neighborhood has far too many cars otherwise. Thankfully I now have some lessons set up, so I'll be in better shape soon.

in all honesty. i learned to shift on my buddy's quad. since I drive a manual pickup I already had the concept of shifting, but needed to learn using a lever and gear shifter.
once I got comfortable on the quad, I went to my friend's katana & learned to ride on the street. I'm sure the MSF course helps much better than any 'learning' I did.

Has anyone seriuosly offered to give this new rider some " Motorcycle riding " instruction yet.

I am no pro , but I can certainly step-up to the plate and guide some.

Jennay would you need to be trailered out of the city or could you make it out to the country on your own ?

Thanks, I did see her post and appreciated the offer. I have a lesson planned with people from the dealership on Saturday, then the rest of the day is gone to other plans. Thanks for inviting me out though, hopefully I will be able to take you guys up on the offer another day.
