    Help finding a Yamaha part!!

Anyone up for a challenge? I need some help finding this Yamaha part/tool. I've got the part number direct from the Yamaha race "kit" book for the R7.
    Part # 5FL-8358J-70
Whoever finds it, i'll get you 2 cases your choice of beer
Obviously i'll buy the part too and once i get the part in my possession, you get your beer

It's called a "switch box" and is used for punching in codes to adjust the EFI system on the R7.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Help finding a Yamaha part!!

If it is anything like the HRC one for the RC51...

    1. You cannot get one because they are only sold to the official race teams
    2. If you can persuade someone to sell you one (and risk pissing off Yamaha) it will likely cost you $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.00

Did you try calling dynojet? There was a PCII, part # 401-411, made for the R7. Might be hard to find though...

    Help finding a Yamaha part!!

If i buy the race kit harness, i can get the tool. That's the catch. The tool is listed and sold separatly though? I don't want to drop $1500 for the kit harness, and the kit harness is not compatable with the street light harness.

I know the tool can be bought prolly through any yamaha dealer but todays salesmen don't seem to think it exists if the part is not listed in their computer.

No, but it will be a amount of equal value

Degs, i've sent a few emails to Graves already, they don't seem to want to give up much information.

Yamaha customer service is about as usefull as tits on a bull with the R7

You bought a very rare, and very expensive bike. If they aren't going to devulge I would be sending a letter to Yamaha Motors and explaining exactly the crap your dealing with to get the friggin part. You might want to include the fact that you owned an R1, own an R6, own a YFZ 450, 426 supermoto, and the friggin OW-02. Looks easily like $50k + in business with them. Your being WAY too patient with Yamaha, IMHO!!!!!!

    Help finding a Yamaha part!!

    Not to mention the
other r1's , R6's, raptor, wr250, wr426, hand ful of banshees etc.... as a life long yammy owner I would get in touch with someone as high up the food chain as you can and tell them the story.
Mention to them the fact that with the invention of the internet you can start to voice your opinion about yammy's lack of customer service to every yammy and other bike websites as you can. Possibly pursuading pontential buyers to go with another company. Not that they will really care but its worth a shot.
Besides if the part does exist in inventory somewhere I am sure they are going to want to get rid of it, its not like there are a line of people waiting for one.
And another thing, you have a race resume now, bring that to their attention . You are a licensed racer aren't you ? They don't have to know that you are not officially racing the r7, but you are racing a yamaha.

Another thing, what good would it do them in hiding any potential tech advantage when they aren't even running the R7 anymore. I don't even know of an R7 platform in any circuits anymore.

    Help finding a Yamaha part!!

Did you try the OW02 forums? Are you a member of any forum that specializes in the R7? Here's one...there are probably others:

    http://www.yzfr7.com/

They have a forum with Tech help and For Sale / Wanted. It would be worth a try to see if any other OW02 owner has the switch box. They may be willing to rent it out if you sent them something valuable ahead of time to hold as escrow, or they might have a contact within Yamaha where you can buy your own. It doesn't appear to be a heavily used forum, but it certaintly has the right audience.

    Help finding a Yamaha part!!

Thanks for looking Gordon. Yes, i am on the R7 webboard hosted by EzBoard, very little action for sure..

Joel, thanks for looking into it. Kinda sucks there are no more race kit parts left I did find the same tool in the factory service manual with a different part number, i don't know if it makes a difference or not? It's listed as a "special yamaha tool" and the part# is 90890-03171 and is called a Co, Diagnosis Switch Box.

Mark, the 90890- numbers are tool numbers for markets outside the U.S.,is there a YM- or YU- number listed for that box?
