In my basement workshop room, I did 1/2” OSB on the walls. This way I could hang almost anything anywhere, and easy if I ever need to take a panel down to get in the wall. Cost-wise it was a little cheaper than drywall (at least when I did it, not sure about prices now) and quicker since I didn’t have to do any mudding/taping. It was a little more effort to paint, since it soaks it right up, I think I did 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of semi gloss white.

Any pictures of that Matt? I want to drywall my garage, mostly for the clean look. I'm 99% sure I'll regret it the next time I want to run something somewhere though.

If you can see past the pig-sty, this is 3/4 OSB with one coat of primer/sealer and a coat of flat finish paint in a light grey.
I did 2/3 walls in my basement woodshop / corner this way. The 3rd is drywall. I also finished the ceiling (5/8ths drywall) and painted it flat white. HUGE difference in the amount of light once painted.

There are 5 or 6 unfinished projects in this photo alone.

might I also add a strategy that I like: modular

my 8x8 shed is *generally* storage...unless it's being used for a motor rebuild. Then those boxes and suitcases get temporarily moved out until the rebuild is done.

I think for you seasonal east coasters, find a way to move things around depending on winter vs. summer etc.

I vote for Saddle Tan, only because it made me think of this:

I kinda like oceanside as it would go with all the blue bikes I own. Probably end up with something like charcoal though. I wasn't expecting all the options.

Depending on how much wrenching you plan on doing in the garage be careful that the color you choose doesn't hide hardware well. Nothing worse then dropping a piece of hardware onto a floor that is the perfect camouflaged color for that piece of hardware.

Many hours spent searching for hardware on dark gray epoxy floor here during a past career.

Oceanside looks like it could hide hardware with the best of them.

THIS! I was running a commercial motorcycle assembly line. We moved into our new space and I let some of the managers pick colors and designs for walls/floors, etc.

They chose a black floor with silver speckles. Looked great, but man, we lost a lot of hardware. Never again...

I've heard this missing hardware dilemma which is tough bc I'm kinda set on the Smoke color now. I definitely don't want brown...

I was going to say the same thing. My first job out of school was at a company that built miniature aerospace hydraulic valves. The shop floor was blue with sparkly silver flecks. So many tiny springs, washers, and spacers disappeared into the floor never to be seen again. I would go with a solid color floor if at all possible.

Haha, one thing for sure, you ain't never finding those 10mm sockets on the "newport" floor. I think of those, desert tan would allow for the best "findability"

Well, I guess there's no turning back now! Only time will tell whether "Smoke" will turn into a 10mm socket abyss.

    Grinding and filling has commenced.

Floor is done. Can you spot the 10mm?

Need to do the finishing work around the edges and put trim pieces around the window and door. Still shopping for a tool chest and shelving.

Astonishingly, still have room in it! You can barely see loft but it’s handy.

Tool box and power tower/bench are in. Slowly making progress.

Still thinking about installing shelving about 6' or so off the ground around the perimeter for additional storage.

that is the next project in converting my barn from office use to workshop use. I am going to start with a 10ft section, I have the angle brackets, salvaged from prior use, gonna make it 18" depth with 5/4 lumber, with a 12" & 6" boards, I use 5/4 cause it sags less than 1" & I have a good local source

Underneath the first shelf, I plan on a hefty built work bench, 8"x8" framework, hardwood flooring top

    I just picked up the 5/4 boards, $42 for 2 boards a 12'x 5/4x12" and a 12'x5/4x6", not as bad as I expected
