    He's a squid...

    My husband is a squid....

I was wondering if it was pure rarity that he would leave on his bike not wearing much gear but helas, once again I've had the confirmation yesterday that he is indeed a squid. He left the house wearing shorts, t-shirt and sandals. No gear whatsoever beside his helmet, and I can tell you if there was no laws in MA for that, he wouldn't be wearing one either. I say that because on Friday, on our way to Quebec, we were crossing thru NH and I saw a guy on a sportbike wearing a leather jacket, gloves, jeans and boots but...NO HELMET. What is the point of wearing all this gear if the part of your body that is most likely to get you kill if you crash is your skull??? So when I said something to that effect to my husband he answered to me "you're just saying that because you're jealous of him not wearing a helmet!" I said wtf? I will never be jealous of people not caring enough for their own life and safety and I will always wear a helmet on my bike even if I had the choice not too! Then he said to me that he wouldn't wear one if he had the choice (I remember riding in CT with him and he took his helmet off for the whole ride). I told him it would be pretty stupid to do that. Then he told me and I quote: "Your not my mom and it's none of your fucking business if I want to ride without a helmet" I terminated the argument by telling him that I'm not too sure it was none of our daughter's business if her dad would die for being careless....

He also called me over the weekend on my cellphone just to "let me know" that a girl was riding on the back of her boyfriend's sportbike, wearing a little top and really mini skirt, and she stood up on the bike reveiling nothing but her snatch, he told me she was wearing no underwear and that everyone got a good view of her genitals...WTF...he was all happy about it and not at all concern about a slut getting on a bike dressed like that, even less about the guy who let her on his bike dressed like that. I told him later maybe she should learn what is ROAD RASH so she would have to dress more properly next time...he told me "I" was fucked up for wishing that on someone else....wow.

Those Squids all need to learn the hard way. As for your husband. I am with you on that topic V. I do not wish anything to happen to him, but he needs to learn the hard way I guess, or witness it happen to someone he knows and cares for. I have witnessed it one too many times, and I have seen the effects with and without gear. I dont care how hot it is I am wearing my gear! I'll be sweating like a nasty hog, but the jacket, gloves, helmet, boots and at least jeans stay on always. To each his own though! A helmet is a must no matter what! & as far as taking chances with kids at stake? Thats sounds to me, lack of concern and selfishness. In my own opinion and think it should go for anyone with a wife kids.. Family is always first, I dont care what it is your doing that you think is more important. YOUR WRONG. If your family isn't your first priority then you should not have a family.

I already decided when I have kids I will be taking it real easy on whatever bike I have. Might even take it down a notch and buy a cruiser when the time comes.. But I will always have riding gear on! Thats just to much at risk if you have a family to take care of.

how about you tell him not to be so fucking stupid. sorry thats how i feel. you have kids. bottom line he needs to realize that being cool went out the window as soon as they were born. he's lucky enough to have a wife that has no problem with him having one of the fastest bikes on the road. the least he can do is wear gear. tell him you want a big life insurance policy taken out on him.

I did forget to mention that I am starting to look TODAY in a life insurance policy on him. I'm so frustrated by his lack of concern and unfortunatly, it DOES NOT always happen to "others". It could happen to him. I never said a word about him having the bike he wants. I never say a damn thing bout him having all the toys he wants, as long as we have a roof over our heads, bills are paid and food on the table. He works hard for his money. But this...gets my pants in a bunch. And the worse part is, for once that i want to have a say, he won't let me have it. He just keep saying I'm not his mom and he doesn't need or want my opinion. So ok...but I will start looking as of today for life insurance. No way that him not caring enough will put us in misery if something was to happen to him. I do not wish anything like that for him, it would be horrible. But I need to think that it "could" happen and I don't want us to be left with no roof over our heads. The thing is...when we go for rides togueter, he's wearing jeans, jacket and gloves. But when he goes off on his own, it's different.

It's disenheartening to hear people with the superman mentality - "it won't happen to me", or "I'm a better rider", etc...

You are right, life insurance is a must. Personally I think this is a must for anyone that has kids - if you ride or have other greater risk hobbies than it makes it a greater nessessity, but any parent needs it. The loss of a parent is likely a childs greatest tragedy, but to then not to have enough money to keep some resemblence of your life together...that makes it horrific.

And while you're at it, get a Will created naming someone to care for your kids if you both should pass away. State foster care is not the answer.

And while my wife does not ride, I have to agree with her - If she was to ride it wouldn't be with me on my bike - it's just an unnecessary risk for our two kids, at 3.5 yrs and 2 months old.

But...I'm an old guy that gets anxious every now an then about my family.

    pb.

I don't know much about any insurance companies here in MA. Any suggestions? I don't want to pay $50/month, can't afford it. I'm looking for a minimum of $250 000 coverage with a low premium, with an insurance company that is trustworthy.

From what I understand it might cost 200-300 per year for that.

Caveat - Your husband must be willing to 1) take a medical exam, and 2) sign for the insurance.

I'll send you a pm as well.

I didn't think you needed the signature of the "insured" if you are the one to pay the premiums to insure someone else? A few people told me you can pretty much insure who ever you want, which never made sense to me. I'm pretty sure he won't mind having a blood test done on him and sign, if he have to. I already told him many times that we should be life insured for the sake of the children and I don't think he disagree.

    He's a squid...

How many "I saw a squid today" threads can we post here people?

I'm beginning to think this is NESR (New England Squid Resentment) board.

    Lata,
    Brian

PS. Tell me though, do people who wear less than "NESR certified / approved non-squid motorcycle gear" have any direct impact on you? Or your experience as a motorcycle rider? And if you begin complaining about insurance rates, then please find a 5 pound bag of sand and begin striking it rapidly. I suppose everyone here is for the seatbelt law in MA too? God forbid if people have actual rights and freedoms to choose.

uh, well.. if your significant other, friend, or family member is the one who is being all squidly, yes it might very well have a direct impact on you.

and i'm w/ bump on this one... V's husband has responsibilities.... they're called FAMILY MEMBERS... he's a retard if he's not taking the proper precautions to protect himself. Does he have that right? sure, according to law, he does... but not according to morailty and common sense.

I'm with Oreo and Bump. Judging by the looks of his response and his Avatar, Brian should be riding with MissTwistie's husband and the ODFU crew.

Know how they say "H.D. or not with me" when it comes to Harley riders not riding with non-Harleys? Well, No gear? I'll Stay Here! If you don't have gear on, you obviously don't care about yourself and can't be expected to give a shit about how you ride around me.

But yes you do have a right to be a squid (we'll call it risky) if you really want to. It's your life/body. but when you have a family to care for. Uhm well there is nothing else to call it then irrisponsible and Stupid... Even without your own family, (Kids/Wife) you still have friends and relitives that would never want to see you in a state of vegitation or worse... I don't wish that apon anyone, even if I truely hated them.. Imagine the thoughts of your parents and close friends if they ever got news you were permanently disabled or dead because you were not wearing proper protection. I sure know if I was to be killed whether it be on my bike or not, my mother would most likely commit suicide. She has told me many times she could not bare the thought of it and could not live on.. Thats just how your family and close friends would probably feel as well.

I lost a couple of close friends and a few family members and I never wish that feeling on anyone. Obviously it's going to happen no matter what, but let it happen naturally... None of which were bike related, all were a force of nature but one. I had a freind commit suicide but shooting himself in the head with me as a witness to the event. Worst thing I have ever lived through.. I never imagined anyone could do that to themsleves.

Granted I can honestly say you might not be killed in a wreck because your not wearing gear/helmet, but your chances are signifacantly increased! Not to mention getting pieces of your ass skin graphed onto your face or wherever else.. Then the comment will be true when someone says your face looks zacry rike your ass!

New England Squid Resentment.....I like that.

God forbid we have "actual rights and freedoms" to be concerned about the safety of loved ones and other motorcyclists. Lets all just say nothing about it, and then watch people suffer and die in an already dangerous activity. Dont promote safety....that would just be silly.

Yes indeed, in this case, it's my husband, which if he dies, my kids will end up with no DAD in their life and loose their home. When someone is careless enough to willfully do certain dangerous things that might impact their loved ones for the rest of their lifes, it then becomes more than "one" person's business. Does he have the "right" to do such things? Of course he does if the law permits. But like someone else said in this thread, it does not make it right, moral or responsible.

WOOAA now... i wouldn't go THAT far... Brian's got all his gear on & he knows what he's doin as far as stunting... i have'nt seen him ride or met him personally but i can get a general idea about his riding philosophy from this board & can tell you he does it when & where it's appropriate. I'd be comfortable riding w/ him anytime.

And that's all you have to say? I'm sure you don't always wear undies yourself, but do you go wearing a mini skirt on a sportbike, knowing damn well that the wind will make it go up to reveal to EVERYONE around all your genitals? I wouldn't think that you would...of course I don't know you, but you just don't seem to me that kind of girl. Not wearing undies is ok with me (hell I did it quiet a few times) but I didn't have to let everyone around me "see" that I was not wearing them...

Just to get back on the subject...when I ride with my husband, I don't see him ride like an ass. I believe he rides safely, don't go extreme speeds and never saw him lane splitting and that sort of things. I don't know how he rides when I'm not there tho...I would assume he rides about the same. But still...riding is already a risk you take, doing it wearing very few clothes and sandals is putting yourself out there for a lot of pain...or even greater chances of no survival if a crash occur.
