Paul, you just need a bigger garage.

How about a nice multi? Then you could trade that silly dualsport for something really fun, like a 300 2t. And then maybe add a japanese beater for track time.
Wait..
Re: Hey Paul - 2017 new KTM 790 Duke
Sorted? Depends on your intended use. As a street bike, it is phenomenally fun. It does shockingly well on dirt roads if you know how to ride dirt. I feel like a supermoto hero on mine (similar, but not the same). It is supremely easy to back this bike in to any corner approaching 90 degrees. I bet with the 1100, you not only back it in, but wheelie it out.

Wait..
In some years I may be back to that. I hope to be back to that, and work my way into another c/r-ing gig.
Time is not on my side at this juncture in life.
I'd buy an 1100 fugly S.
Paul, the leaving loudon in a trash barrel, wagging like a dog, has written it off for me. Did they fix that stuff with the a/c motor?
Re: Hey Paul - 2017 new KTM 790 Duke
I remember that saga, but I have no first hand experience with the problems they were trying to solve. I rode the 1100 on track and liked it. I have no stability issues on my bike. I'm confident in my riding skill level. I cannot explain what those guys went through.
Re: Hey Paul - 2017 new KTM 790 Duke
Hey Colin, maybe you were right, maybe I DO want a hyper.
Re: Hey Paul - 2017 new KTM 790 Duke
I will say that out of the 80+ bikes I've tested in recent years, the 1100S HyperMotard is the most fun bike I've ever ridden,
with the 1290 SuperDuke a close second.
If/when I ever need to replace my M900 Monster, an early 1100S Hyper is on my shortlist.
I'll be happy to give this new 790 Duke a test, and due consideration, when I have the chance.

 Quote from P.K. when I showed up at his shop with my Hyper: "Sweet bike, would love to own one for the street but i'd lose my license in a week. Oh yeah, it's a piece of shit, geometry is fucked for the track. No idea what Ducati was thinking, spent hours and $$$$ reworking one for Loundon, still fucked. But no worries, we'll get it sorted for the road."
So no Loundon experience, but the things rips on the street and still makes me smile in every corner :shredder: and P.K. suspension is still working great on the road :twothumb:
P.S: DO want this new KTM, nice replacement for my 690

What's the loudon story? I love a good story. :cyber:

Cliffs
someone bought a hyper
dumped a ton of cash into it
crashed it
when it left Loudon you could fit most of what was left in a small to medium cardboard box

It's the stuff of lore. Happened in t8 area, so just a casual, slow off.
Re: Hey Paul - 2017 new KTM 790 Duke
Didnt it actually split in half?

Watching it go up the hill through T4 it sure looked like it wanted to, serious pumping action on the rear suspension. No idea how he just rode through that and didn't pull off screaming 'NOPE!' the first time around.
Re: Hey Paul - 2017 new KTM 790 Duke
And yet, the vids of Nicky and Xaus ripping these bike showed no such issues. I didn't have issues when I rode one at loudon. I will never understand what happened with that bike.

I've also seen vids of a Prius doing burnouts, J turns and skidding to stops, all things the version us mere mortals get to drive can't do... :D
Re: Hey Paul - 2017 new KTM 790 Duke
The bike did not crash well. I remember that race weekend. There was nothing left of that thing!
Re: Hey Paul - 2017 new KTM 790 Duke
Conservation of mass Loudon style. Got it. That sounds .. unfortunate.
Re: Hey Paul - 2017 new KTM 790 Duke
There was a front wheel, and forks, and the triples, and a little bit of frame. That was the biggest piece iirc. It was put outside the north garage for everyone to see. Ugly.
Re: Hey Paul - 2017 new KTM 790 Duke
He should've stuck with his KTM, he built a damn nice race bike in that 525smr.

man that thing was scary to be behind. i just couldnt get around him though. it shook like a wet dog all the way down the straight. he had 1 foot off the pegs. i thought for sure it was going to spit him off...every lap...and i was going to have to somehow avoid a sliding body and ghost bike at 100mph. i did my first 18s that race :D
next weekend i showed up and was told he tossed it into the woods

2 championships awesome, I didn't even adjust the suspension. PK told me it was a rocket.
