    HF sonicator

What do you all use as a liquid in the sonicator ?

Simple green straight or even 20% with distilled water always give me an ugly varnish carb parts ...

Probably because simple green eats aluminum.
Distilled water and dawn works well for a lot of things. They sell ultrasonic cleaning fluid as well. Heating the fluid up first helps immensely too.

I've only used ultrasonic cleaning for technical pens, the solution comes in 8oz containers and wouldn't be practical for larger applications, but quick Dogpile search comes up with this: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/a...xoC33gQAvD_BwE

Distilled water, and a drop or two of no scent/dye dish detergent. Takes longer than simple green/etc but it’s safe for anything that can be wet, and it ‘s zero extra effort on my part to just let the unit run longer to do it’s thing.

Never had an issue with 20% simple green solution. 45 minutes, then rinse well.

Guess I let it go longer than 45 I guess....can't recall
Either way it looks like crap now with some fine white powder. I carb cleaner dunked it , carb cleaner spray , then sonicated with dawn and ditillead and then rinsed really really well. Then rinsed again. And dried with my wifes 400$ hair dryer that gives positive ions to reduce curling....
Issue with the oxide / fine white powder ? I can still feel a little fine textures surface
    Should I fix it ?
Google says soda blast media should do the trick .
All I got to do is find soda blast media and it seems all around me (Boston ) is mail order.
    Harbor freight ?

Harbor freight has that, walnut and glass media. I would imagine either the soda or walnut would be fine to blast.

pick up the soda... and am blasting with a 5 gallon pancake compressor. Little buddy is running continously almost.
95% done after 1 hr( full time to unbox, set up , track down the compressor etc and giving it a few breaks to not break)

looks better, not 100% but better.

    Lesson learned......
