One more Hi-Viz poll

Okay, this poll is serious, unlike the last one.

I noticed most of the people in support of Hi-Viz gear had sport-touring bikes listed in their signatures, which lead me to think...is there a correlation? Just to be clear, I define Hi-Viz as neon orange, green, yellow and will set the bar as owning a suit, jacket, vest or helmet in Hi-Viz.

Also, for ease of this survey, lets define sportbike as CBR, R6/R1, etc...
Sport-tourer would be like v-strom, VFR, FZ6/1, etc....

Maybe its up to the rider, but how about if you owned a sport bike first, did you own the hi-viz gear then or buy it after you picked up the sport tourer and vise versa?

LOL, that is a good way to put it. I actually had the sport bike first and wore a matching jacket with that. Then I got the Tiger and the Hi Viz shortly after that. So I guess the adventure bike brought the Hi Viz out.

Do you have any idea where you're looking to camp in VT? I'm just getting into motorcycle camping and I'm interested in a quiet places to camp. You can look at websites all day long but it's hard to tell where it's quiet. I guess state parks are a good place to start.

I'll save you the effort several similar polls were published last season here, on HDforums, and XLForums, ADVrider, etc.

First of all, people don't like public polls so most won't vote in them. Second, only those people who click on the thread vote: that's usually either people who are strongly for or against, since many riders don't even think about it. I'll give you an example: most riders have rain suits of some sort, and most rain suits are a bright color. But most riders don't really consider that they are wearing hi-viz some of the time, ie when they are wearing the suit. Finally, the wording by different people on different forums may also have an impact.

With all those caveats:

Example poll on stromtrooper 47% do, 47% don't, and 6% went for the bemused "looks dorky" option.

Advrider. 41% all the time, 28% some of the time, 13% no because of how it looks, 19% never for other reasons.

Similar poll on XLforums. 26% just about all the time, 21% some of the time, 23% no because of the way it looks, 30% no for other reasons.

HDForums, which is even bigger than ADVrider. 13% all the time, 35% some of the time, 19% never because of how it looks, 33% never for other reasons.

Last year's poll here. 18% all the time, 24% some of the time, 15% never because of how it looks, 43% never for other reasons.

I wear a hi-viz helmet, everything else I own is various shades of black, though as this season approaches, I would like to change that.

Non-riders seem to wave or acknowledge me more often after I started wearing the bright helmet...

Of course, when I'm off the bike, I just get funny looks, like, "Yeah, that's really cool..."

Can't prove it, but I think my hi-viz bucket saved my bacon today. Woman in a beat subie wagon nearly pulled a leftie on me out in the woods.

Coulda been my headlight she saw. Coulda been the ground shaking rumble from the exhaust on my 60HP 'strom. Coulda been divine intervention. Or it coulda been the bright green bucket. We'll never know.

I seem to catch more people doing double-takes when pulling out of turning in front of me when wearing the Hi-Viz as compared to when I didn't wear it. I'm not out there to ride in a mobile fashion show so it doesn't really bother me at all wearing it. Anything I can do to keep me alive another day, I'm all for it.
