Hit Up an ATV Trail Today on the Z125

I saw a dotted line close to my house on the map that I had not before noticed. I rode to the approximate end of it, and there appeared to be a path with a barrier that was opened. I thought, "Why the **** not?" I was not disappointed. The trail turned out to be a hiking and ATV trail with some awesome views of the rivers. There were a lot of tree roots crossing the trail and a lot of mud puddles from some fairly recent rain. The stock suspension and tires ate up everything except the mud puddles and bigger rocks. I went through a mud puddle near the beginning and the rear tire tried hard to low side me. After that, I stuck with going around them. There was a short 4 foot section of very shallow running water that I had to "ford" (It was about 2" deep with a gravel bed). The causeway at the end was really awesome. Now I can't wait to wear these tires out so I can try some Maxxis M6024s!

Sick bike. I miss not having magazine subscriptions, I had no idea what a z125 was when I read it mentioned in here, then I saw a guy in windham with 2 black ones in the bed of his truck. Pretty cool looking. So, obviously competition for the Grom? What's the top speed on those?

On the flats they top out around 63 stock. It's power limited, not gear. It's definitely a Grom rival. I hadn't seen either because I was out of motorcycles for awhile, but when I decided to get back into it I saw one at Flamingo and had to have it. It's like a street legal 2-wheeled go-kart. Great for learning to do stunts and stuff like that. It looks ridiculous but damn it sure is fun!

how serious can you get off road?

I saw a group of groms pull up to a gravel road when I was on the vstrom...I thought a couple were gonna follow, but I guess they changed their mind

With the right tires, I'm sure I could hang with a VStrom. Gravel road is hairy no matter what you are on and what tires, but I'd certainly feel more comfortable on the Z125 than I would on my Hyper. I think I would be more comfortable hitting rough trails on the Z125 than I was on my KLR 650. It doesn't have the ground clearance, but it is a lot more controllable at low speeds, and if it starts to go over, there is far more chance of saving it. 220 lbs versus 430-500 for the big dual sports.

sweet....I was a big fan of smaller (XR80/XR100/XR200) dirt bikes, but everyone here gave me crap for enjoying them

issue with the XR100/200 series is the inability to get a street plate...the Z125/grom solves this...

Mine's a Pro. I don't think they sell the non-Pro automatic ones here.

I tried taking my Grom on a class 6 road a few weeks ago, my eyeballs were rattling so bad I couldn't see where I was going. I'll continue taking the Super Adventure and leave the Grom for roundabout use.

You should probably procure yourself a sticker if you're going to make a habit of such shenanigans.

Re: Hit Up an ATV Trail Today on the Z125

I've heard Groms have bad vibrations and a terrible stock suspension. I haven't noticed any problems on the Z, but your road could have been a lot worse. I take mine up and down my series of asphalt patches my town calls a road every day. It's only bad when I have to pee.

What is this sticker being spoken of?
