It's not just the US market, it's a world wide phenomenon. And what's not to love, all the amenities of a sport tourer, without the forward lean. I've no desire to adventure ride my adventure bike, but absolutely love it for regular riding.

I agree with you, but the most adventure-y bike I ever owned was a Honda VFR1200X. I rode it to South Dakota and then returned home on the Northern Route over the Great Lakes. It was "not great" at this duty. I actually preferred my VFR800.

My ST1300's and not my Yamaha tracer 9GT are vastly better long trip sprot tourers than the adventure bike set, IMO.

But I will also admit that the Tracer 9GT doesn't have that "trip-around-the-world" look.

There are similarities between the adventure bike and HD crowds. Neither will admit it, but it's a similar need expressed in different looking packages.

Primary difference I've noticed: My ST3 has happy cruising at 'possibly' above the posted limit... I had a limit to how long of a day I'd do on it, but it's interest in super cruising meant I could cover miles at a good clip. The Pan Am doesn't have the wind protection or gearing the ST3 had, but it's super comfy, and the wind on the highway isn't annoying. I cruise at a lower speed, but am happy to do so longer. Otherwise I've got all the storage I could want, wife is comfy, and if it gets at all shitty, I just don't care one the Pan Am.

Similarity to HD riders? I suppose? I still want to do TDs on my toy though.

Yammie noob channel said the same thing. ADV bikes are excellent (sport) touring bikes. Minus the orange R/Rally variants, I think ADV bikes suck enough off road, that I say Just throw a dedicated street tire on it and call it a day

I don't count the ST1300 / ST1100 in the SPORT Touring category, they are the entry points into the full tourer category along with the Goldwing in my mind. Bikes like the Ducati ST3/4, sport bikes with bags are what I'm comparing against.

It makes little sense to detune a bike for the US market to me. Most Euro5 (and soon to be Euro6) motos already pass US regs with the same power output.

From the reviews/comparisons I’ve read, the 82hp Suzuki GSX-8S is noticeably punchier in the low/midrange compared to the 90hp Honda Hornet. Maybe this is an attempt to re-tune for that?

Although, I doubt it - here on this side of the pond, with our “more is more better” mentality and no test rides, real-life butt dyno results aren’t going to win spec sheet races.

Is the parallel twin the least sexy engine layout? Besides a thumper?

Modern ones can be really quite good.

But compared to a V? I only have experience with older Ptwins and least sexy is my best compliment as well.

I moved from a KTM 1290 to a 890R. I don't miss the V at all. The p-twin is a bit more vibey than the big v-twin was, but just as raucous and fun. Sounds amazing too.

That matte black bodywork is so awful. First model-year reintro of a classic adv nameplate? Got it chief: Fug, boring, and highlights scratches.

Pleased they gave it a 4.5 gallon tank, at least.

Pretty lame that they didn't add CC given it's already a throttle by wire adventure tourer. They're probably withholding it for a gen2 refresh.

The triumph tiger 850 doesn’t come with cruise either even tho the 900 does. Lame.

It's extremely frustrating that brands continue to treat CC as a "premium only" feature.
If it's not a trials bike and can achieve 65 mph, it should have cruise for the same reasons a base model cage has cruise.

Unless I’m mistaking, the base triumph tiger 1200 GT has cruise as an accessory OPTION, and that’s a $20k bike! But then again the 1200XE, while having cruise, is a 17k bike… I think the Tiger has the edge with that triple engine.

I always found the Tiger 800 to be boring. And the gearing was awful on the 2016. I believe they lowered 1st on the later bikes, but I don't think they ever raised 6th, which was badly needed.

I loved my Tiger 1050, did not enjoy the first gen 1200 at all when I rode it. The new one is pretty nice, though.

Also, I just can’t believe the msrp of the Scrambler 1200 XE is $17k. It was $15k when I bought mine, and I paid way less than msrp. It’s a great bike, but $17k just seems insane to me.
