I dig it too. I especially like the plastic case guards, which should last about one ride. Cool for buzzing around town and light off roading though.

Do not dig. And the adv community has been clamoring for a 450cc rally steed like what they run at...ummm...actual rally's, not a overdressed crf250l.

Well, it's no 450, but it would certainly make the 250 a hell of a lot sexier to own and likely a bit better to ride.

I had a Hyde Racing plastic guard and it works better than you'd think: it's slippery and doesn't dent so you tend to roll over obstacles. The biggest problem is mounting: you rip the mountings out if you really whack something.

Eh, it just makes for a heavier CRF250L... not the direction that bike should be going in my opinion.

This thing isn't clad with a really poly skid plate, just shitty little plastic wings.
What you have is way better, and I'm sure, pretty much unscraped :poke

someone mentions in the comments "why not just drop in the CBR 300 motor?" that would make that that 250 a little less gutless

    Re: Honda CRF250 Rally

I feel like Honda has always compromised a lot of its products to keep costs down. They know that people want a bike with adequate power, but they're afraid to build it because it'll have a price point near or above $10k. So they chicken out, and offer an underpowered bike that looks cool, and is relatively affordable. Maybe it's a marketing strategy thing, but Honda seems to like being the "vanilla" of the motorcycle world.

I can't imagine the 450 engine is that much more expensive to build than the 250.

I don't think it's a matter of cost, although I'd wager the 250 being designed from the start for low cost of production in India is likely cheaper, especially when you add in the volume of them churned out compared to the 450...

In any case, primary reason to use the 250L motor is because it has service intervals like a normal street motorcycle. Put the 450R motor in there and people are going to be changing pistons after every other commute to work...

True. 250 4 strokes are only good for city commuting IMHO. LOl. I had a WR250r and it seemed way underpowered (and the WR was the class leader!) A NEW street legal Jap 450 would be the bees knees. HAhaaahha
