Question Honda Interceptor- tell me more

Just got back from looking at 2001 Honda Interceptor- nice looking bike. The salesman didn't know much about it- so I came here to ask the "experts". What can you tell me about them? It was very comfortable as I was sitting on it.

800cc V-4 Honda. Gear-driven cams. Very smooth tractable motor which was the basis for the RC45 Superbike. Sport-touring classified with the emphasis on sport. It can canyon carve with the best of them. One of the most reliable motors ever built and a very high quality motorcycle all round. Lots of touring accessories available like saddlebags, high screen etc etc. Linked brakes are a downer for me but many people like them. Rumor has it that Honda actually sell these at a loss as they are a great advertisement for the company. Apparently the motors are horrendously expensive to make (like $5000 for the motor alone).

Retail for a new one in 2001 was about $9700 I believe. A low mileage one (say under 10,000 miles) now should cost about $7000-$7500 at a dealer, maybe 500 less private sale.

they're asking 7,900. it has 2300 miles on it. Yellow in Color- absolutely beautiful. I pretty much fell in love with it. The salesman said he coud get me close to $2500 on my trade -98 ex500- and he said he could get a discount on the bike itself-$500-$750 off. He also said he would toss in a new matching helmet. Very tempting, but needed to do so research first

Be sure to poke around on some other message boards too. There's GOT to be one specifically for VFR's...

    Honda Interceptor- tell me more

thanks for the links. So , I have it pretty muche narrowed down to two bikes. They have a 2002 Yzf600r w/ 2000 miles for $5,900 and then the VFR. I love both of them- the cheaper price tag on the yzf appeals to me as well.WHy can't these decisions be easy??

I don't know if $7900 for a 01 with 2300 miles is a good deal, although they do tend to hold value.

After I got mine ( a leftover 02) I heard of people in some parts of the country getting new/left-over ones for $8500. Six hundred extra for a brand new bike would seem worth it to me I guess.

I like mine a lot. It's comfy, fast enough, great in bad weather, etc.. The power band feels like a cross between a V-twin and an Inline 4. It's perfectly happy from 3-6k rpm but will happily run up to the redline. There were 2 VFRs in the top ten at the Iron Butt Rally this year. It's definitely comfy. The bike has absolutely no vibration either, which is almost weird if you ride another bike after riding the VFR. (Ok if you lug it you can get the mirrors to wiggle, that's about it.)

    Ben
