    Honda NC700X

    Honda NC700X-imageuploadedbytapatalk1413642520-141040-jpg

Going to ride one of these next week. Direct competition with the Wee and Versys but with some differences. Significantly better fuel economy is a big plus. Fuel tank under the seat and a 5 gallon storage compartment in its place. Low redline at 6500, some testers liked, some disliked, all agreed it took some getting used to. Lowest power in class, not sure if that's a negative or not. Suspenders and brakes reportedly lacking, seems to be common to the class though.

Looking at this as a commuter and weekend warrior I can get a high level of utility from with a low risk playing in the triple digits. Big plus, it looks like a giant Grom.

Has been around a couple of years. I believe they sell (or sold) an auto/dual clutch model. Strikes me as a typical Honda - very sophisticated engineering and bullet proof reliability wrapped in an outrageously boring package. Doesn't make you 'want' it. Blah.

Many of the reviews seem to say its "utilitarian" AKA useful but boring as hell. Please post your thoughts after riding one.

There is a red one here at work that's caught my eye. It's a sharp looking bike in person but suffers from the aforementioned....

Almost bought. With a slipon it almost sounds like a motorcycle too.
I like it, and I'm sure it'd be fantastic with springs and ss brake lines. (For commutering)

    Honda NC700X

There's definitely some blah aspect to it. Don't find that to be any different that the Wee and Versys though, I think it's the nature of the class. Definitely thinking about this in the same way I look at my truck, I want it to be able to perform a number a tasks well.

Racing has definitely changed my perspective on street riding. I don't want to give it up, but a 150 wheel horse power speed triple is not what I want out of the street anymore.

My Dad has one. It's fun to ride, kinda like a big dirt bike. I have the thing pinned everywhere constantly looking for power.

Yes indeed. I fitted a set of TuneBoy/RaceComp cams and had a custom fuel map done. 150/82. It's a beast.

Id love to see the dyno run for that. I'm not saying its not possible but that's almost 30 more then stock which is crazy.

My wife loves hers, but she fell in love with something else. Hers is for sale if you are interested, has a few extras too.

    Re: Honda NC700X

It's got a whole lot more to do with mild stock cams. The grind I have is the same lift with significantly longer duration. S3's with a custom map are getting 130 (vs low 120's with a stock/Arrow map.)

I'll see if I can dig up a dyno chart for you.

Yeah, I saw that and chuckled too. Didn't want to say it. But no, it's not making 25% more power than stock with cams and an upmap.

    Re: Honda NC700X

Very interested in your thoughts on the Honda. The specs alone are a turnoff for me. On paper the 700x makes 20% less HP than my wee. And less power is the one thing my wee definitely does not need.
And a single disk front? Really?!

I love me an adventure bike though. Big fun. Perfect all-round street bike.

    Re: Honda NC700X

What is the significantly better fuel economy exactly?

Cause I own a Wee and I see low to mid 60's every single fill up.

Hit 285 miles on the last tank.

The honda just screams "I want to spend more for a worse bike just so I can say I don't own a Vstrom".

It is VERY similar to a Hawk GT. 700 cc vs the 650 plant and they threw in 4 valves instead of 3 and some fuel injection.

    pretty consistent 55-60 mpg

    Re: Honda NC700X

I looked into these as a street replacement for my sv when they first came out. nothing struck me as a bike i wanted to own, but it looks like it'd be "fine". the biggest draw is the "trunk" where the fuel tank usually is. That would be a nice feature for a grocery-getter.

    Re: Honda NC700X

    I read somewhere that's it's basically 1/2 of a Civic motor.
Intended to be used like a Civic - reel off thousands of Honda-reliable low-maintenance 65-70mpg miles.
Good for people buying a motorcycle as transportation and not for a thrill.
Pretty much the opposite of most people on this board I'd imagine.
