Cause I own a Wee and I see low to mid 60's every single fill up.

Hit 285 miles on the last tank.

The honda just screams "I want to spend more for a worse bike just so I can say I don't own a Vstrom".
Cycleworld got 73 mpg on a commuter type test, that's about 10 mpg better than the Wee. I would consider that to be significantly better. As for performance, it seems the whole class of bikes is within a few horsepower and foot pounds, and I think generally accepted the suspension and brakes aren't great on any of them.

I'm definitely not anti-Wee, but I am curious about the other options- particularly when one looks like my Grom and has a really slick storage compartment without having to put bags on.

It is most certainly a "I don't want to go fast" bike. I can get down with that.

You set on going new or is used an option?

I'd have to assume that used is preferred since fuel economy is your highest priority concern. That being said, $3k buys a whole lotta used Wee.

The word is that it is actually half of a Honda FIT motor. The Civic is a 1.8L. The FIT is a 1.5L

Nah, not set on new by any means. If I could unload my speed triple I'd be all over a 1000DS I know of. I wouldn't say that fuel economy is my highest priority, but when comparing the new bikes it's a significant consideration.

Stopped by parkway after work, there is something strangely sexy about this bike.

Didn't get to ride, Zev says they only offer that after a deal has been struck and a bit if paperwork done. It's not a binding deal, but more effort I wanted to put in today.

Yeah, I definitely dug it as well. Plus, 70+ mpgs almost makes anything sexy.
But, a 1000ds motor might be the best lump ever. It's so, so good. What bike is it bolted into?

I must be turning into an adv geek. The 1000DS is in a multi. Really nicely setup bike. Really.

The fuglystrada is a VERY quirky motorcycle, but it is an absolute joy to ride. Expect in the vicinity of 38mpg.
It's really not an adv bike at all, but a comfy real world traveler. And that motor....unghhhhhh.

    Pros: riding it.
    Cons: looking at it
    Ethanol stress
    Crappy starter clutch
    Starter wiring
    Lack of luggage options

Beyond that, if I could keep my license with a 17" front, I'd still have mine.

    Re: Honda NC700X

Nevermind the wee.. I don't know if I could walk past the Kawi Versys for the NC700x. I hear the Versys' suspension actually likes to get down and it even looks like it could stop. Single disk front?! In your face cost cutting?!?

I've said it before; I just don't get most of Honda's latest lineup. I actually think the VFR800 is the best kept secret in their lineup. Almost everything else leaves me unable to even find the motivation to find their dealerships.

If you wanna hear some gushing love about wees or adv styled bikes in general, say the word. I can do that. Aiming to get my '11 wee to tick over 40k before I tuck her in for February.

I don't think that's quite right. This motor doesn't rev and I don't think pushing this bike feels fun. I expect it is most enjoyed lugging around "cruising".
In contrast, the exploding 250-500cc range of relatively low hp bikes seem to fit that category better.

I'm in the patient mood when it comes to my next street bike for sure. My speed triple is a great bike, but it doesn't fit my needs anymore - that's mostly due to getting into racing this year. What I want out of street riding now is just a different thing that when I bought the speedy. That said, I still owe about $6k on the bike. While there's definitely a good chunk of positive equity in it, I'm not prepared to lose my ass on it. I also don't want to rush into a new bike and end up unhappy with my choice.

I'm not really in love with the NC, but I think there's a lot to like about the bike from a utility standpoint. I like the styling and design of it, and think the short comings are something that one can love with and upgrade. Suspension is an easy (albeit expensive) fix. Brakes probably just need stainless braided lines and some quality pads. Here's the biggest problem:
    Honda NC700X-imageuploadedbytapatalk1413904448-684309-jpg

This thing is sitting at one of my job sites and I know it can be had for a great price- significantly less than a new NC and massively better in every respect. I don't even thing it's that fugly....

    Buy the Multi...

If I could afford one, I wouldn't even be thinking about trying to find and older VFR over the winter.

I want, definitely do. Can't justify it until I sell the speed triple though. Not sure it will still be around by the time that happens.

    Re: Honda NC700X

I had a chance to pick that up. When I didn't, Mick jumped on it.

It was a good deal, but you are saying utilitarian on one side and opposite on the other. I'd say this is not at all a utilitarian bike. Not good on gas, more maintenance intensive, etc.

If it's what you want, do it, but not for the reasons you stated above.

    Re: Honda NC700X

Get the multi.. I think. (Never rode one. Strictly off the reviews of others.)

Really though, I think the only place you can go wrong is by buying new and taking the depreciation hit. Either buy new if it is something you're going to ride into the ground, or go used.
That multi seems like a decent way to sample the whole adv thing.

Re: Suspension. I don't know the NC700. But google says it is a damper rod setup just like the wee. Racetech emulators, fresh oil, and proper sized springs made all the difference for less than $250 all done. May be cheaper to fix than you think.

    Re: Honda NC700X

Eh...I'm not gonna say one over the other. The fugly is a wonderful bike. It's quirks will make it a chore to live with.
The 700 you could ride the wheels off of and never touch. Ever.
I was in your exact spot this spring, and ended up on a 990adv, which is a little character, some mpgs (40-45 depending on my wrist) will carry ANYTHING I want, and go anywhere I need a motorcycle that's not a 2t dirtbike to go.
I like it. I'm still drawn to other bikes, but I really can't see trading off everything the 990 does reasonably well for an increase in one area, with a sacrifice in too many others.
I thought the SV was the Goldie locks of bikes. I'm singing a different tune now.
