The good news is, the more people who ride, the more awareness there will be for us on two wheels. And it is a heck of a lot cheaper.

Good find! My coworkers used to think I was crazy owning a motorcycle. I used to get all of the stupid comments on how I am going to be killed on the bike. blah blah blah.

Now my coworkers don't seem to be laughing anymore. hmmm.....

Good thing no one was coming the other way when that reporter pulled out. He was practically on the double lines.

And i thought twin cruisers really werent that great on gas. That lady said she got 57mpg on the highway.

    I'm all for more awareness

it may be good in the long run, provided the legislators can withstand the increase in crashes/fatalities that are going to come before people realize something really needs to be done about serious rider education without banning them.

lots of new riders (particularly people that are used to brainlessly driving for the past 3-4 decades) with little concept of the everyday battles riders face on the street = increase in

Re: Bikes/scooters save gas on NECN today

Im all for all the more awareness we can get. Who knows, that car that might've just swerved into my lane might be a new rider that just needed his car that particular day and might actually check now.
HOWEVER, I have yet to see a scooter rider wearing any sort of gear EVER. Obviously helmets, but those are usually the half helmets anyway. And far from me being a gear nazi, but even when I'm in town I wear a jacket, helmet, gloves and boots, and while in town I dont go any faster than those scooters are able to do. So what happens when people who dont necessarily CHOOSE to ride, but are forced if you will, start getting hurt and mangled all over the place, its just going to put another negative connotation on all 2 wheeled motorized vehicles. In my opinion of course.

Re: Bikes/scooters save gas on NECN today

I have noticed the increase in motorcycling.

Try looking for a cheap <$1500 smaller bike with less than 30" inseam seat height.

    Yeah...ha.

I have always been a guy who can find a deal for anyone anytime. My buddy has cash in hand waiting for anything from 1978 or newer and there is NOTHING. Every bike gets sold before I get a reply back. I offered asking price-cash-pickup last night for a bike that was listed at 11:04AM on craigslist locally. I emailed at 11:17. Got an email back later that night "BIKE SOLD". Wasn't even a fantastic deal.

    Frustrating.....

Doc, you have about 48 deals going right now, where is that Honda Ascot?

Clayton, Jenni's still got her GS. Only running on one cylinder right now, guessing it just needs a new plug but i haven't gotten into it yet.

    Great story...thanks

I think that it's a double edged sword.
The more people who begin to ride, the more awareness, but how many people will actually educate themselves and take a MSF course or equivalent?

I think those of us who ride out of passion tend to be much more safety oriented vs. the person who is using a motorcycle as merely a means of transportation.

Re: Bikes/scooters save gas on NECN today

A couple of years age, rising gas price and parking at work got me thinking about motorcycles so I got a 250. From a commuting point of view, the bike has probably already paid for itself.

Of course, the "fun" aspect quickly overshadowed the "practical" aspects, hence my trackday addiction! Damn you Tony!!!

I wonder if rising gas prices will open up a marker here for smaller displacement bikes? Honda now sells a 125 sport bike in Canada, so why not here?
