Man...you know that guy was trying to pose for the camera and hit the corner a LITTLE too hot. With a passenger wearing nothing. Guy's cooler than the other side of the pillow.

Firstly, painted surfaces are not meant to rail on. As you can see, that is where the bike loses grip. I'm sure we've all seen people make poor desisions interpreting the road surface like this before.

Secondly, as people have already made the point that they are wearing no gear, yes they are stupid, but the guy is the one driving.

Most importantly, this guy is risking not only his seemingly worthless bodyparts, but unbelievably, he is negelecting his lady. That just plain irresponsible when people risk someone elses life, particularly so when a man risks the woman he is charged with protecting.

Not surprisingly, in todays world, it seems we've lost the sense of a person's value.

Actually from the website, it looks like those pics might be from two different passes through the same corner (if the pics are posted chronologically). The first was the wave, the second was the showboat crash. Also from the site:

I blame him. He was sitting up front, coming in too hot, already over the centerline, riding on the paint, not wearing gear, not insisting his girl wear gear.
Not good.
Nobody gets on my bike without proper gear, myself included. Think she has gear in that overstuffed backpack? I imagine the photog has pics of the aftermath... not posted, though.

I'm a complete newb (read:never even been on a bike)... yet, I've read enough here and in books to know that riding w/o proper gear is not good. (At least they have helmets and gloves ... /sarcasm).

I've also read enough to know that what's happening in that last picture is just seconds before "oh... shit."

It's the aftermath of that, that had/has me scared to start riding... dammit.

Well riding is dangerous...but remember that guy put himself in that situation. He obviously went into the corner too fast trying to show off, and ended up biting it. If you do go into riding, I'm sure as you know, take the MSF first thing. There are a lot of things you can do to take away as much risk as possible...not riding like a moron is one.
