Still hunting for race bikes and info.

    I've got a few race bike prospects still, a few RS125, a few EX 500, and a few SV650.

I've asked similar questions before about various bikes, but I'm still trying to choose. The 125 is still winning.

Is the SV very hard on tires compared to the other two? How is the stock suspension? Brakes? Anything to watch out for?

Currently, I've got an 95 RS125 lined up for purchase/shipment.. It looks to be the bike I'll get, if all goes as planned. What I've learned though, is that things dont always go as planned. SO, just digging for more info to try to make a decent decision.

Here are some pros/cons of each.. Anything anybody can add would be great!

RS125 Pros: full on race machine, easy on tires
RS125 Cons: needs lots of maintenance, not easiest to ride well

EX500 Pros: cheap, easy on tires
EX500 Cons: gremlins, possible to outgrow, not a race bike by design, more gremlins

    SV650 Pros: ??
    SV650 Cons: ??

It is a definite concern. I found a few TZ125s online too, and because of what Paul and Tony have said about the chuckwagon or RS parts, I've chosen not to even follow those leads.

There is a growing field of 125s, so I'd steer you there if you have a bike you feel good about.

I've ridden race and street versions of the EX and SV and have ridden Paul's 125. The 125 is the most satisfying to ride, followed by the SV, and finally the EX.

But, there are a lot of fellow NESR/ODFU guys on EXs, and racing with friends makes it even more fun.

Remember, "slow is fast" so in that respect, the EX is the way to go!

NOPE!!! The 125 is the best supported bike at Loudon. I can saunter over to Steve's trailer and get anything from nuts and bolts, to bodywork, to cranks, magnesium wheels, absolutely ANYTHING I may need.

*whisper on* get it *whisper off*

You won't have any EX gremlins if you rebuild the bike every other weekend. Just buy one and pretend it's a GP bike

Well, I just got a call from the seller of a 1995 RS125. I'd like to announce that we're moving forward with the deal, now its a matter of paperwork and shipping lead time.

    I feel good.

Thanks guys. I'm having the seller take some closeup pics and itemize all spares. I hope to have all details and paperwork rolling by Friday.

Woohoo! Congrats, man. Any details? Does he have data for how many miles are on it? Bottom end? Top end? jetting data, etc.

If he's telling you the motor is fresh, ask for a reference to back up the claim. Engine builder, parts guy, other racers, etc.

If it's unknown, best to start with a fresh rebuild. Once you have a known engine, you can get onto the maintenance schedule outlined in the HRC bible.

If you need any help, give a holler.

So I finally got the extra pics I had asked the seller for. Now I'm looking at a 2 week lead time, and I'm trying to close the deal today or tomorrow if possible.
