Thumbs up Husqvarna Vitpilen & Svartpilen 401/701

Pretty good video, 1st half is technical info with Husqvarna rep, 2nd half riding & impressions. Still not 100% sold on these bikes, like the concept but may take a while for the looks to really grow on me

Sooo...husqvarna is a small company that needs help from Jay Leno with free advertising? I would think Ktm is a big enough company to afford an ad.

Looks like a restyled Duke 690/701. Pretty sure these are made in India, too.

definitely the ducati scrambler of Ktm. But both those bikes have some things going for them IMO. Style is a big part of motos and these bikes certainly have a new style. Time to move on from the power rangers look of the 90s/2000s. Gotta start somewhere.

401 has a fixed/solid rotor going into a four pot radial caliper... that seems like a recipe for warpage to me? Suspect it's the RC390 front end?

I love the looks of both. They really nailed it.

The biggest downside for me, however, is that they're thumpers.

No way. That is their biggest asset IMO. Try one. THe motor is as smooth as a 90 degree twin and singles handle better than anything out there.

I'd love to try one. Anyone got a KTM 690 or a Husky 701 I can borrow?

Aesthetically speaking I can’t say I hate it, and I do love my thumper. Would ride.

Re: Husqvarna Vitpilen & Svartpilen 401/701

I totally see the Scrambler comparison.

Having owned a duke 690 previously, I have to say the single cylinder set up works. Shitloads of torque. Vibes were limited, especially compared to Ducati/Harley v's.

Only downfall was at 95 mph it would hit a wall. Then it would be 96.......97......98.........99....lol. Not really an issue in most riding situations. Sucked on rt 9 heading to Bennington.

Re: Husqvarna Vitpilen & Svartpilen 401/701

I think the 701s look like really neat bikes. The KTM 690 Duke that they are based on is a great machine, at least for local use.
I'm doing more long distances these days, with a fair bit of baggage (see below for my most recent setup), so I won't be getting one of these, but if I ever got an extra bike for local daily use, and kept a different one for traveling, these would be a good choice.

Re: Husqvarna Vitpilen & Svartpilen 401/701

I am quite pleased with my 2017 701SM. For the type of quick jaunts on the street and multiple track day riding that I do it has been a good choice. I could see it being only slightly less than the right tool for longer trips due to no wind protection, no luggage capacity and the seat might use some help. Speed isn't really an issue for me as I cruise at 10-20 over the speed limit and it will do that all day long without issue. Over 100 is typically reserved for the race track for me these days.

I really like the vitpilen. Curious to see what the final price will be.
