    IBA BunBurnerGold attempt

getting my plans set, I originally wanted to go to the Ozarks, but route logistics don't work for a BBG, going to Joplin, MO instead

    here's my plan
    start
    Newington, NH, Saturday June 20 @ 6:00pm
    route I-95 to I-495 to I-90 to I-271 to I-71 to I-70 to I-44 to Joplin

yeh! it's all highway, all 1530 miles, plan on being in Joplin 4:00pm Sunday June 21

the route back will be exploring, probably 3 days I will still have to do 600 or 700 miles a day

Did a Saddlesore last year. 1052 miles in 23 hours. Not much highway which made it hard.

I've done SS1ks highway, non highway, and a regular Bunburner, all are easy compared to a BBG,

it's an exercise in time management, even without dilly dallying around at gas stops, it really only gives me 21 hours to travel 1500 miles, I'll have to mantain an average speed above 70mph when I'm moving

I spent a couple of nights in Joplin. Not much to do there. Nice people though. I'd swing through Kentucky on th way home. Some great riding on the back roads there. Pretty liberal speed limits too. Good luck!

    Re: IBA BunBurnerGold attempt

did a little training this weekend, I've never been on the highway for a full tank of gas, so I went to New jersey for breakfast Saturday morning I did almost 800 miles when I ended up at my dad's house in Vermont

good news is I can recaculate my route to Joplin again, I got better fuel range than I expected, I can stretch out my fuel stops another 20 miles and it means I might be able to cut it to 7 fuel stops and gain another 15 minutes of buffer time

@ steady 80mph (I maintained an average of 76.2 mph when moving, and 72.1mph overall including gas stops over 722 highway miles in 10 hours and 2 minutes

In all seriousness, how long do you find it takes to seriously square the tires putting in that kind of 1k+ nonstop highway mileage, especially when maintaining a good average speed?

depends on what kind of tires you run, I'll be running Continental Trail Attacks, (going on in the next few days) and I don't have any experience with them, it's the first time I have run them

my tires rarely get square, the % of my riding that is highway is low, even though I'll be doing 1500 miles straight that won't be enuf to square a tire, before its worn, I will be balanced with more twisty riding than most people do

sure I'll ride 5000 or 6000 miles on the highway in a year, but I will als ride 10,000-12,000 miles a year on gravel roads and 10,000-12,000 miles a year on twisty paved roads

BTW I started this weekend with a nearly bald Metzler Karooo T (knobby) on the rear, it had about 1/16 on tread in the center blocks, I put about 800 highway miles and 300 other miles this weekend (half gravel) the tire is now bald (6500 total miles) but no cords showing yet. I was surprised how well they Karoos did this weekend, I thought I would have cord showing by the time I got home

yes, on V-strom, in a way I wish I was on my SV, it is more comfortable for me but with gas stops every 100-125 miles I wouldn't be able to do it

gas every 200 miles with my Vee, my GPs is loaded with my route and gas stops

the group meeting me at the other end is going to ride the last hour with me from Springfield to Joplin
