at least for the '06 riding season....seems new hampshire has something called a "habitual offender" law. Who knew? Anyway the gist of it is that if you get 12 points on your license in a one year period, they can suspend your license for up to three months. If you get 24 in a 3 month period, they can suspend your license for up to a year.

As luck would have it, my last ticket in september was just enough points to put me over both the 12 points in one year *and* 24 points in three years statute simultaneously.

However, the judge (/guy at DMV, dunno if he was an actual judge, he didn't ask me to call him "your honor" but then again if I was a judge I think I'd get pretty annoyed at people calling me that all the time and demand that they refer to me simply as "Da Honor-dizzle") was "lenient" on me and only imposed a one month license suspension + 11 month deferred license suspension, meaning that once I start driving again any single point in my license in the next 11 months will result in it being suspended for a year (and I think that they may get to chop off one of my fingers, I'm not sure about that one though, I should probably consult a lawyer about that).

So yeah...I'm thinking probably riding a streetbike around isn't really going to happen this season. Aside from the obvious temptation to wick the throttle and go from 0 to license-suspension in approximately 2.5 seconds, a bright green kawasaki sportbike is not exactly inconspicuous. I'm thinking it's time to trade the zx6r and stupid red copmagnet-mobile in for a nice...oh I don't know...hyundai accent? I figure owning a car that I may need to actually push up steep hills might lessen the chances of me getting any further tickets this year.

Stay tuned for exciting stories of me trying to get by with no car for a month in a town with zero public transportation during the coldest part of a new hampshire winter...this should be fun...I guess I better go lube up the chain on the 'ol mountainbike. Nearby residents, if you happen to notice some dumb fuck pedalling around on his bike in the middle of january, be sure to flip me off and yell out your car window what a dumbfuck I am to reinforce my desire to never get myself into a stupid and easily avoidable situation as this.

You shouldn't need to adapt your behavior all that much to avoid getting tickets.

It's all just how you play the game and I'm not even talking about beating tickets, just avoiding them altogether.

Paint the Mitsu black or something. Hell paint the Kawi solid black too.

BTW nothing wrong with riding the mountain bike around in the winter it can be lots of fun. If you're stuck doing that for your transportation PM me and I can recommend some good clothes so you don't freeze your azz off.

When I lived in NH they tried to get me with that damned "habitual offender" crap when I went back after not having my license for 3 years. So I had to get a lawyer. The "nice judge whatever he is" decided after I spend about 2 g's that time since my last driving after suspension ,which was 1 year, would be good for time served. In NH driving after habitual offender is 1 year in jail. No time off, no good behavior and since it was a full year it's in the state jail not county (easy jail).
So as luck would have it I get pulled over the very next day and get arrested for driving after habitual offender. (I got stopped because they knew me and that I had a suspended license).

Back to court I tell them my story. They tell me I'm wrong. I told the "asshat judge," My hearing was recorded you better go listen to it. Plus you had my license 3 years and now I have it, How did I get it back? So a lawyer later I get told I was correct and did indeed have my license back. They give me a piece of paper that said I have my license and let me go. The next day I get pulled over again. DMV says I don't have a license and I'm driving after habitual offender. I know this cop, show him my paper. He says he will let me go for now probably another DMV screw up. I call the DMV they say the person who enters the information was not going to be back for a week so I might end up in jail again if I. get stopped.

Thankfully I did not. But not to worry I managed to get my license suspended for 7 more years all on my own.

I have it back now and I am trying not to loose it again. It's clean ,but if I don't slow down it won't stay that way.

Anyways enough about me Watch out if you drive the Derry cops know you lost your license. A list goes out to your home town and the surrounding towns as well as in the papers.

If you can't get up to NHIS enough, get thee to New England Dragway. It isn't road racing, but it can help keep your pipes clean. Sort of like comparing love making to masterbating. It isn't nearly as good as an all-righter, all-nighter,, but it sure can take a load off your, um, mind! I still have MY license!

Just to clarify Honclfucker Habitual Offender has nothing to do with points as in mass. It has to do witha combination of major and minor offenses.

If you get enough of one or a combo of both you hit the "Habitual Offender Lottery" and presto chango................

Also keep in mind if you get caught driving aftrer being declared "Habutial Offender" it's a MANDATORY 1yr prison term and you are charged with Felony.............and then say goodbye to ever owning a firearm, and your anal virginity!

Thanks for all the advice guys, lot of stuff here I didn't know that's helpful. I might be labelling it wrong as "habitual offender" since I don't have any major offenses, just a combination of speeding and noninspection violations...either way, they got my license based on some XX points in 1/2/3 years statute.

The way I racked up 12 points was 1 count of speeding 25 over (90 in a 65 on the bike) which is 4 points, 2 counts of speeding less than 25 over (in the car) which is 3 points apiece, and one count of noninspection which is one point. Add that together with an average of two speeding tickets per year over the last 3 years, and I've got 24 points.

Yeah, I'm not gonna drive without my license. Like you all said, it would fuck me in the ass if I got caught. It's gonna be a bitch to get through a month but I'll find ways around it, not sure I could do that with a year's suspension.

The whole "no points in a year" thing is what scares the fuck out of me though, just driving home yesterday (suspension went into affect today) I was so fucking paranoid about getting pulled over that I could barely stay on the road. Ironically, I'm fairly certain that the threat of suspension is going to make me a less safe driver. Oh well, I'm such an awesomely safe driver that I have safety to spare, so I guess that will be ok.

Ben, not sure how serious I am about the MTB thing, gotta see how much work I'll be able to do from home in the next month or so, but if I do end up biking I would figure ski stuff would be pretty decent for biking as well? Or is it too bulky? Hmm, I have an old neoprene wetsuit...

Sorry to hear your woe's. Unfortunately it is a familiar story.

I lost my license in NY back in the 80's for numerous speeding, street racing, reckless endangerment, exessive speed etc, etc. etc....
I then decided a VW desiel was the way to go, no power, cool smoke screen option and great milage! Now it is a low power GTI and a 4 year old daughter that keeps me in check. My insurance is cheap and I don't freak out everytime I see a cop.

Track days and racing this year should satistfy the urg and hopefully keep me out of trouble. I as others have said recommend the same for you. Besides you will get even better at riding by doing this anyway. In fact it might not cost much more if you consider all the lawyers fee's, fines and insurance cost that you just and will be paying.
