Exactly what I wanted to say. Trading my street bike for an adventure bike was the best decision I've made in a while. They're super comfortable, very fun but not too fast, and will take just about any sort of road you can throw at it.

Another suggestion is to get into the Tag-o-rama games on advrider or the like (sorry, but the NESR Tag-o-rama is lame). Whenever I'm bored, I just check out where the NH or VT tags are on ADV and take a spin. I find that it's a great way to explore areas you may have otherwise ignored.

As crazy as it might sound- I have 3 sportbikes all rather similiar (Inline 4s) but each bike is different enough that the same route on each bike is truely a completely different ride. I couldnt imagine having just 1 street bike. I would def. get bored quick. If your funds can support it- the variety will keep you satiated...

have you tried them? I never used to ride solo in VT, but playing a VT TOR game has taken me all over the state, and I've had a lot of fun. I would never have thought to stop at some of these places, and for the most part, I'm glad I did.

I'm with ya mike, I'm pretty sure my 1k will be up for sale in the spring with the possibility of replacing it with a Dr650 motard.

u could ride like rossi & some dipshit on the streets will just run u over. streets r just that dangerous. the danger aspect of street riding was enough to get me off but group rides with kham or fat-shel & some others on here knows some awesome long distance curvy roads with lil traffic that will keep u out of boredom.

+1 for Motard, but the other edge to the motard sword is the hooligan temptation factor.
Speeds go down, but front wheel goes up too often.
I don't really miss riding on the street, it just ceased to be any fun. I DO miss having fun on the street. Not sure how to get that back to be honest.
My current best solution is a track bike and an MX'er... except I don't have an MX'er

Re: I'm probably not alone on this subject.

I am kind of at the other end of this: I have been riding dirt only for 40 years, and only recently started riding street. The only sport bike I have spent any time on is my daughter's Ninja 250, and an EX500 that I owned for a year. Both of these bikes are plenty fast for me, with the 250 being a bit more fun. I don't do any highway with them, though. I also have a DR650, which is my street bike. It goes plenty fast (for me), and it can take me anywhere.
Then, I have my 100% street legal '04 KDX200. This is where I really get my Jollies. It does not like pavement, but it can link trails just fine. I can go as fast as I want to go - off road, and if I can burn a full tank of gas in it, I will be completely wasted physically.
As some have said here - your best bet is to acquire 2 or more bikes that have different purposes. This will keep you entertained, and you won't have such a strong desire to push the performance envelope on the street.
    JMO.

I will try adv tag o

I am using Google Maps as a discovery tool, with the Vstrom, MAP and GPS I go anywhere and everywhere.

The V strom is just a smiggion slower in the real world then my old gixer
Though I miss the 170+ blasts, it higher so exiting lean angles apply.

MY brother is dropping of an older BMW 650 which will be the dirtier bike for dual sport etc.

I remember back at the english sport cars and old corvettes I had. In actual speed measurement they went around exit ramps etc. at the same speed as a loaded 69 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible with 5 friends and the air conditioner on,,,, but the sport cars gave the perception of speed and the fun factor.

sure, the speeds are down on the motard.
so instead of dooing 100-180 your dooing 75-100

for me motards were fun for 5-6 years (2002-2008)

motards can do light adv riding.

speeds are down on adv bikes too, but there more comfortable and practical when it comes to 8-16hr days.

If you're doing 180mph on the street a motard isn't going to fix your issues.
75-100mph on a street motard is also a bit of an exaggeration, IMHO.

Agreed. A motard is really in its stride around 50-60ish.

50-80 on my SMC is in the sweet spot. Perfect for street riding.

    i dont exaggerate.

my old tard 640 ktm lived between 75-100, unless it was a really tight technical rd.

top speed (gps) was 104-108 depending on terrain, elevation and wind.

50-80+ would be on dirt rds

with the adv bike dirt is more like 50-100+
