    Unhappy Injured dirt riding.

Well my first real dirt ride with the new dirty toy and I get injured. It was a week ago Sunday I was out with Brent & Lis at Clough State Park.

Not even an hour into the day I lowsided going through a corner not thinking, using too much front brake. (Street+Front=Good, Dirt+ Front Brake =BAD) & I know this, just out of the habit... So I dumped and would have been fine except there was this odd shaped rock the size of a cantalope that managed to inpact my lower back right under my kidney belt.... Oooooooooooouuuuu.... Took the wind out of me pretty good, it also took about 5 minutes before I could get on and try to ride on. Ended up riding the rest of the day, but it hurt like hell, so I was riding slower and a little smarter. ( Well Smarter probably would have been to go back to the truck and pack it up..) I toughed it out and still had a great day, but still paying the price...

So now After a week I decided to have the Doctor give me her opinion.

Worst case is I chipped, or fractured my pelvis. She seems to think I only damaged the tissue which surrounds the pelvis. Unfortunately she also tells me this area is full of nerve endings and that is why it hurts as much as it does.

Get this... She told me to give it a few weeks, take some motrin that she is perscribing. IF it doesn't feel any better then we will get an Ex-Ray.

I mentioned again "the ROCK that I impacted with all of my weight!!! You really think I should wait on an Ex-Ray???"

I really hope it's not a fracture, but either way it doesn't matter, I will be getting the same treatment whether it's fractured or not..... So why bother with the Ex-ray if you treat it the same way??? Only difference is it will take longer to heal and I'll Need more drugs..... Although a fractured pelvis makes the story sound better...

6-8 weeks est recovery, provided it's not fractured...

I can still ride if I really care to, but it will hurt like hell and will not help the healing process. I think casual street riding is going to be ok though..

My turn to pay for playing hard...
Maybe I'm getting to old to play with toys like this?

You're not to old Mike this shit happens. It's the price we pay for playing the games we do. Unfortunately what you are getting to old for are speedy recovery times. The older you get the longer they take to come back to 100%.

Just take it easy and let it heal. A little time and patience now will go a long way in the future. I can attest to not following doctors orders as I have more aches and pains than I care to.

Well at least you'll be healed for Ice Racing........start saving for tires brother!!!!

That sucks dude but I know how ya feel... I hit the pavment pretty hard this weekend up at the track & my hip is KILLIN me. Sorry to hear bout that & I hope ya heal up soon.

BTW, wtf is an Ex-ray? Doesn't have anything to do w/ an EX500 does it? Cuz if so I bet they're slow & painful

I think you should call that Doc back and tell her the Motrin is not doing gonna need somethin a little stronger. i.e. Percs, and grab a 6 pack of beer on your way home... I don't think you'll feel a thing after that.. Only problem is you can't do much other then sit there..

OUCH! that must of hurt like a bitch. I smashed my ribs in to the steering wheel of my tractor a few years ago and that hurt for a long time. The older you get the slower you heal.

    Sorry to hear that Mike...

I broke a couple of ribs a few years ago while riding by dirt bike. Hurt like a M'Fkr...

KB's right, the older we get, the longer it takes to get back to 100%, but you'll get there...

In the meantime, relax and "milk the injury" for all you can...

    Mikey... get better bro.

fyi... in my experience... i would rather have the cracked pelvis cause soft tissue injuries tend to hurt a lot more and take a lot longer to heal than a broken bone.

    Injured dirt riding.

Go to another doctor and have it checked out proper. Fractures, breaks & chips that go untreated for even a short time will haunt you for the rest of your life...

After my m/c accident years back, I also tuffed it out and waited to see a doctor. SIX weeks later it was discovered that I broke my collar bone (it still sticks up and pushes against my skin). About a year later we learned that I chipped TWO vertabrae and compressed my neck to the point that it's now wunna them degenerating condition thingies...

I now live with BRUTAL neck, back & shoulder pain. I'm incredibly limited in what I SHOULD do for physical activity (although I don't pay much attention to that) and abrupt weather changes leave me practically crippled for a day or two. I now have revolving RX's for a number of pain killers & muscle relaxants. Most of this chronic pain coulda been avoided if it was all diagnosed right away...

Bottom line is, seek another examiner. YOU tell THEM what you want as far as x-rays & shit. You're insured, they get paid handsomely. Insist on proper treatment & care...

    +10,000

My brother has been through 2 major neck vertebrae surgeries
and now has a permanently fixed neck cause he was a tough
guy and did not seek help after his auto accident.

Auto accident was over seven years before the surgery ...

He still owes over $8k for what his personal health insurance did
    not cover ...

And that is not counting what he already paid out of pocket.

BTW ... the accident was his fault.
