    Need some input

I have a 2001 gsxr 600 that I dropped last October. The only damage is to the rear set on the shifter side which broke off the frame. Since technically the frame is broken I was told to have insurance total the bike which should be worth about $4500. From what I understand though I can have it re-welded for about $150. Should I just get it fixed or should I use this opportunity to get a new bike and if so which one do people recommend?

If you have them total it I think you'll get less than what it is actually worth. I would spend the $150 and have it fixed and than sell it if you want to upgrade. Selling it out right you can get more for it and if it just fell over then you can honestly say that you didn't crash it (as far as the peg goes).

Just make sure that who ever does the welding is real good with aluminum or they'll make it look like shit..

I agree with Jim...get it fixed! Do not ust any welder, go to a aluminum expert. The rearset holds a lot of weight and you do not want it to break again.

Having it fixed will also save your insurance rate from rising.

Thanks for the advice. Both of you brought up some good points. I think I'll get it fixed at G.M.D. Computrack. I called and they said that they fix this problem all the time. This way I can save the hassle of dealing with insurance and keep it from going up. Thanks again.

Other things to keep in mind is that you may have some trouble keeping the bike, and the title will be tagged if it is totaled.

designing and tooling up is expensive, plus materials. Believe me, MANY have entered this business thinking they could sell them cheaper, only to find it tough to make any money.
