    Inspection question

Will a bike with dry rotted tires pass inspection? A friend just bought his first bike at a dealership by himself. It's a 2002 shadow with 9700 miles and looks like it has the original tires on it. They inspected it and passed it with shitty old cracked tires. Shame on him for not bringing a friend who knew better, but shame on them for selling a first time rider a bike with unsafe tires.

    Re: Inspection question

Well technically I don't think there's a rule for passing/failing for dry rot. As long as the tread depth is above the state minimum, they're good. Plus the dealer can fudge anything to get the bike out the door. It's still kinda shitty to be selling a bike with old outdated tires. He should see about getting them to put new tires on, or at least meet him half way when he needs to get a new set.

In Maine dry rot is a reason for failure.

    Re: Inspection question

I know they could fudge anything to pass inspection and that's why I asked if anyone knew if dry rot was a definite reason to fail. I am going to go there with him and talk to someone to see what they can do for him. It just seems like bad business to sell anyone never mind a brand new rider an unsafe bike.

    Thanks Kurlon for the tip.
