    State Inspection for rebuilt bikes

Does anyone know what the procedure is to get a rebuilt title?

    Here's my situation:

My 08 R6 was vandalized/parts stolen off it. I had it totaled by the insurance company and am currently rebuilding it (>95% completed), just need new rear brake lines.

I got the MA salvage title in hand. What will be the procedure to get it street legal again?

Should I get it inspected first and then go to the RMV and pay the $50 or how does this work?

    thanks

Ok, this is how it worked in TX:

Get a salvage title bike, fix it up, take it to a state authorized inspection station, show them the salvage title, and as long as they sign off on the street worthiness, then take paperwork from them to DMV and voila, clean title again.

So, where do I find this said paperwork?

What do I need to ask my insurance who totalled it, whats the paper work called?
What forms do I need from the RMV?

A lil more help would work great for me.

If it turns out to be such a problem, then I might just get it done in NH giving my family's address.

Have receipts for the parts marked missing/ damaged in the initial appraisal from the insurance company. You need to get it inspected by a Mass State Police officer. Some suck some have common sense. Paperwork /receipts are key

I went through this and it was a pain in the ass but worth it in the end. They wanted to see all damaged parts replaced, even the dented tank/scratched plastics.

And if you're replacing with ebay parts or any other used parts, they will want to see a reciept AND VIN from the bike it came from.

    did you read my thread

look on the RMV's website, it tells you what you need (its under titling and salvaged titled vehicles)

you need to bring the salvaged title as well as the insurance report that says everything that needed to be replaced to be road worthy. you also need all receipts showing that you replaced the parts.

    this isnt texas

you need to pay the $50 FIRST, BEFORE you get it inspected.

I think it's called insurance appraisal(the list with all the damaged parts, how much $$$ needed to be fixed including labor and what is worth at the time of appraisal)

rest is all receipts, pictures that you provide, you gotta make a list of parts that you have fixed(welded, painted) that you didn't replace cuz for those you should have receipts

    good luck!!

Re: State Inspection for rebuilt bikes

lol, i might as well sell mine as a track bike to someone outta state so they can get it registered there and then buy it back for me as a clean title street bike again.

Too bad I bought some of the parts from forums and e-bay and cant really provide receipts for some parts. Main parts: clip-on, exhaust etc bought from online stores so I can get receipts for those. Fairings, headlight and frame with scratches have not been replaced, dont think I can afford to get new fairings, headlights and frame.

Anyways, lesson learned. I should've never let the insurance total my bike and just fixed it. I'll keep it as a track bike or sell it as a track bike.

    if your paperwork is good
    you shouldn't have a problem.
I did my bike and was treated fine as I had all the receipts for the parts that needed replacement.
And my bike was anything but clean when I brought it in.

I first have to get with my insurance and get the estimate. Then check what I've already replaced and try to "get" receipts for them.

hence the decision to sell as track only. Too bad I cant move back to TX and get it street legal there . Dont understand why these regulations have to vary from state to state. I think Motor Vehicles laws should be Federal and same over all states and I want a million dollars too, lol

Look, we're just thinking of the children. Someone has to.

Argo took care of mine (I bought the bike there). Even then, I don't think that the process was worth it.

do any of the proceeds from conversion of salvage to legit title go to the children??

this does not help any. Laws should make life easier for everyone, not the opposite. Still dont understand why laws are different in different states, vehicles are all the same, except Cali.

Re: State Inspection for rebuilt bikes

The title they give you is not "clean"...it states rebuilt...so resale is a bitch considering the purchaser knows it was totalled previously.I did a couple of bikes in Bridgewater. The napolean looking trooper is a total d-bag..but the huge amazon female trooper was cool as hell.she had me outta there in 20 minutes.Insurance appraisal and paperwork is the key....and don't mouth off too much.
