Question Insurance coverage on Race/Track Bike

So you own a bike which you only use for track or racing, do you have it listed with the RMV (DMV)?
If your bike is not registered for street use, do you have it covered under an insurance policy?
Can you get auto insurance for a vehicle not used on the streets? Does the Home Owners policy cover a track or race bike if the place where the bike is stored gets damaged?

I am thinking about changing a bike I have now registered for street use for strictly track use. There by taking the plates and registration off of it. I am concerned I will no longer have any coverage on the bike should it get stolen, damaged in some other way on the property or while being used in a track event.

    What does a person do????

If it gets stolen at your house/apt, I believe it would be covered under your homeowners/renters policy. if it gets damaged at the house (fire/flood/tornado etc..) i believe the same would apply. dropping it in the garage/driveway etc.. I doubt would be covered.

As far as if you drop it at the track, I'm assuming your deductable and premium would be super high for a track/race bike. I personally don't know of anyone that has a race bike insurance policy so I'm not even sure that you could get one.

I don't bother registering track only machines.

As far as home owner's insurance, bikes are weird... there are very specific circumstances where insurance will pay for theft of them, but most of the time, not covered. For instance, stored in a trailer, not covered. You'll need to contact your insurance agent to get the specific details of your plan.

Regular bike coverage for a track bike? Good luck collecting on that. : )

According toy insurance agent the bile would
not be covered if stolen from my garage.

So, I keep it registered and keep it insured for fire and theft. Then I put the comp and collision on for the 4 mo of track season. That is on the hope should something happen I may get coverage.

Different states have different insurance laws.

    Ask your agent.
