    intake backfire

On my 2004 rsv, i'm getting some sort of backfire out of the intake. Its only at a low rpm, usually between 2 and 3 thousand. It seems relatively harmless except for when I'm letting the clutch out. If it "backfires" as i'm releasing the clutch in first gear its enough to stall the bike....making for a huge pain in the a** when leaving stop lights/signs and such. It doesn't do it all the time, and certainly doesn't render the bike not ride able, but it needs to get fixed. I have arrow slip-ons, and the evo intake with map 2 installed. Any thoughts on what is causing this/how to fix it???????

    Re: intake backfire

Only help I can give is make sure the TBs are installed completely in the rubber boots and the boots are clamped tight. Loose boots can cause this same symptom on the TL1000R. I'm sure there could be other reasons in your case.

Did you just take it out of storage? Old crappy gas could be the cause. Fill it with fresh and see if it still does it.

its a fuel injected bike, it did sit for a while i believe. I bought it about a month ago and it only had 1100 miles on it. Now it has almost 2300, so its def not the fuel. I looked at the throttle bodies while installing the evo air box and they looked just fine.

    Re: intake backfire

Talked to the guy at the local aprilia dealership. He said he thinks the bike is running lean down low. He also said there are to adjustment screws on the throttle bodies, that can be manipulated to adjust for the problem. Anyone have any experience with this? is it something relatively easy to adjust myself?

Those screws on the throttle bodies are idle air bleeds, you don't wanna muck with them. If it's suddenly lean there's a reason, either low pressure, dirty injectors, etc. Find the reason, fix it.
