Ipod mount / Electric tank bag

In planning for my trip I am trying to decide on either an IPOD mount for the bike OR an electric tank bag.....

    Any recommendations for either?

Figure out what you need at http://www.rammount.com/Products/Mot...8/Default.aspx.

    Buy from mountguys.com

I have a xgrip with a brake / clutch reservoir base. Love it.

Recently went on a trip on another bike with a tank bag... hated it.

    YMMV.

Do you guys tether your i-toys in place when using that x-grip? Or just wing it?

something about the x-mount makes it seem like it's missing something from physics - why not put a mount on top and bottom?

what keeps it from sliding up and and down? friction?

It incredibly stuck in there. I was suspicious and worried that I might have to tether, but there is absolutely no need. I don't think i can even get the phone out of there without both hands.

Of course I run mine horizontally as well, but I wouldn't worry about running it vertically.

I've been looking at the x-grip. Will it expand to hold a case as well?

Yes. It'll hold anything less than about 3.5" (guessing) wide.

It's springy. You "strech" the X open, set the phone in and the X "closes" on the device.

I got my x-grip yesterday. I gave it a try today. Really works the balls. Held up to triple digits on the 'slab, washboard on the dirt roads, and everything else I threw at it today.

    Good tip guys!

Just wondering what you guys are using for a base? I'm thinking the fork stem, but maybe the reservoir base. both with the 1" arm.

Re: Ipod mount / Electric tank bag

I have an aftermarket accessory plate that fits around the ignition on my motorcycle. I drilled a hole through this and mounted a RAM-B-309-3U 1" RAM ball. I have also successfully mounted a few RAM-B-236U 3/8-16 thread bases here and there by drilling and tapping a hole.

I think Jason commented that he used a brake/clutch reservoir base (RAM-B-309-1U). I think I saw 2 on his mamma-jamba-wing last weekend. These do not work on my motorcycle as they interfere with the mirror stalks.

There are plenty of other options, including u-bolt bases that can be fitted to the bars, etc, etc. Depends on what you have for space on your GSXR and where you want stuff mounted.

Yea, I have one of these http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResul...5/Default.aspx on either side.

One side is the phone. Other is the radar detector. I still have 2 additional ball mounts free (one on either side). No idea why I might need them.

I think that's the first time anyone has said "more balls" in relation to anything I've posted.

I figured I would post up what I ended up doing. I used the stem mount and ran usb power to charge my iphone and anything in my tank bag.
