    Cagiva Mito 650

the 500 is a neat little bike... this might be interesting. Wonder if they'll import more to the US. Dunno if i like the Hyosung lump though... hope they didn't shoot themselves in the foot w/ that move.

Faster and Faster: Cagiva Mito 500 will now be a 650, will be made in India!

Cagiva Mito 500 will now be a 650, will be made in India!

The Mito's 916-inspired styling still looks pretty cool...

Back in December last year, we had reported on Cagivaç—´ plans of building the Mito 500 sportsbike, which would be fitted with a single-cylinder, 510cc engine sourced from Husqvarna. Well, Cagiva have changed their minds it seems. The Mito 500 will now be the Mito 650, and will be fitted with a liquid-cooled, DOHC, 650cc, 79bhp v-twin sourced from Korean motorcycle manufacturer Hyosung. (The same engine is also fitted to the American-made Fischer MRX.)

To keep costs down, the new Mito 650 will be built in India, by Pune-based two-wheeler manufacturer Kinetic, who also have tie-ups with Hyosung, SYM and Italjet. Though itċ€¤l only be moderately powerful, The Mito 650ç—´ Ducati 916-esque styling, light weight and low-ish price (we hope!) should make it an interesting proposition for some.

I'd buy the Mito 650 before I'd Buy a Hyosung... Maybe for a racebike.

I wonder if that Hyosung 650 is still for sale... CCS racer was campaigning it, built it to the nines (forged mag wheels, crazy suspension, etc) and then turned around and put it up for $4k. I was almost tempted to snag it rather than buy the GS when I first heard of it.

Edit: Found it, $8k, not bad for what it had on it though:

I htink that is what they were going for.

Cagiva is a Parent or subsidiary of Ducati... or was. I can't remember.

    Cagiva Mito 650

In 1985, Cagiva S.p.A., an Italian manufacturing conglomerate (together with its subsidiaries, "Cagiva") acquired the Ducati brand and related business. Cagiva reinvigorated the Ducati brand by refocusing on Ducati's tradition of building high-performance racing motorcycles. Under Cagiva's ownership, Ducati motorcycles reinforced their reputation for excellence on and off the racetrack.

In 1996, DMH was formed by a group of investment funds known as Texas Pacific Group ("TPG") and Deutsche Morgan Grenfell ("DMG") to acquire the Ducati brand name, trademark and related intellectual property rights from Cagiva. Cagiva contributed the other assets and liabilities associated with the Ducati business to DMH in exchange for shares issued to Cagiva representing 49.0% of DMH's total issued and outstanding shares. Following these transactions, TPG and DMG indirectly owned, in the aggregate, 51.0% of the shares of DMH. On July 30, 1998, TPG and DMG through their affiliates, together with a third investor, acquired the remaining 49.0% of the shares of DMH owned by Cagiva.

I see the googling has already happened, but yes Cagiva owned Ducati. Just take a look at a 916 and you'll see the Cagiva stamp all over the place.

I think my registration/title even has Cagiva as the Manufacturer.

Anyway... the last I heard the Mito 500 (now 650) was going to be around $8K imported to the US. That's kind of pricey for me for a 500/650.
